Used 2021 Mazda CX-9 for Sale near Quebec

How much does the 2021 Mazda CX-9 cost?

Prices have softened 10.94% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 158 listings available, which suggests a reasonable amount of inventory for shoppers comparing used CX-9s.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-9 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mazda CX-9 earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth handling, reliability, and luxurious interior. That lines up well with the CX-9’s positioning as a polished three-row SUV for you if you want something more premium-feeling than many mainstream rivals. It also fits buyers who value comfort and a refined driving experience over maximum cargo space or outright power.

With 34.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-9 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback repeatedly points to reliability and a trouble-free ownership experience, alongside the CX-9’s smooth handling and luxurious interior. The expert road test also describes the SUV as a compelling choice that benefits from incremental improvements for 2021.5, which supports the impression of a well-sorted, dependable vehicle.

Mazda’s powertrain and chassis tuning are presented as durable, confidence-inspiring parts of the package, with the six-speed automatic behaving flawlessly and the ride-and-handling balance feeling exceptionally smooth. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about mechanical drama and more about living with the CX-9’s known compromises in space and technology.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mazda CX-9?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GS starts with 18-inch alloy wheels, while the GS-L moves to 20-inch wheels. Higher trims add more standard luxury and convenience features, and the GT brings a meaningful safety-tech upgrade over the lower trims.
• Powertrain: Every CX-9 uses a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard in Canada, and the engine’s strong low-rpm torque is a key part of its character.
• Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and rain-sensing wipers are standard. The GT adds adaptive front lighting, a driver-attention monitor, front and rear parking sensors, Smart City Brake Support Reverse, and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: The CX-9 gets a 10.25-inch static display with Mazda Connect, plus Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and text messaging support. It does not have a touchscreen, and the voice recognition system is a weak point.
• Fuel efficiency: The CX-9 is thirsty, and the expert road test recorded 11.7 L/100 km on its standard route. Natural Resources Canada says the CX-9 Signature is supposed to use 10.5 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Mazda CX-9 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 is offered in 5 trim levels: GS, GS-L, GT, Kuro Edition, Signature.

Here's the short version:

• GS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core CX-9 experience with 18-inch alloy wheels and the standard safety and infotainment equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but you give up some of the richer features found higher up.
• GS-L: This trim adds 20-inch wheels and sits in the middle of the range, making it a sensible step up if you want a little more presence without jumping to the pricier luxury-focused trims.
• GT: This is the best-value trim if safety technology matters most, because it adds adaptive front lighting, a driver-attention monitor, parking sensors, Smart City Brake Support Reverse, and a surround-view camera system.
• Kuro Edition: This trim is part of the more luxurious upper half of the lineup and is aimed at shoppers who want a more distinctive, upscale presentation.
• Signature: This is the most luxurious version, with premium Nappa leather, Santos Rosewood inlays, real aluminium accents, quilted leather with contrast piping, and the most upscale cabin treatment.

The GT is the key safety-package trim to watch, while the Signature is the one to choose if you want the most premium feel.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mazda CX-9?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if the right listing appears.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 158 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.94% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $28,043 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mazda CX-9's resale value?

The current average of $28,053 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,500 CAD.

That price movement suggests the CX-9 has become more accessible for used buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, it also means you may need to price competitively if you want your listing to stand out. The good news is that the model’s premium image, strong owner satisfaction, and broad appeal as a polished three-row SUV should help support interest over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-9 safe?

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star frontal-impact results for the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and rain-sensing wipers. Moving up to the GT adds adaptive front lighting, a driver-attention monitor, front and rear parking sensors, Smart City Brake Support Reverse, and a surround-view camera system.

One caveat is that lane-centring assistance is unavailable, and the adaptive cruise system can struggle to smoothly maintain following distance at higher speeds.

Should I buy a 2021 Mazda CX-9 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.94% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021.5 updates bring a standard next-generation Mazda Connect system and new available safety features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $31,126 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $28,053 CAD average.
• It adds a more clearly defined five-trim Canadian lineup and continues the CX-9’s premium three-row positioning.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better value if you want the CX-9’s premium feel at a lower used price. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2022 is the cleaner alternative, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2021.

How does the 2021 Mazda CX-9 compare to the 2021 Honda Pilot?

Our experts score the 2021 Mazda CX-9 7/10 and the 2021 Honda Pilot 7.2/10.

The CX-9 leans more heavily into premium materials, polished handling, and a more upscale cabin feel, while the Pilot offers more power and a roomier, more practical family-hauling setup. The CX-9 also has the stronger safety score here, but the Pilot’s lower average used price gap is smaller than its stronger utility advantage for some shoppers.
