Used 2021 Mazda CX-9 for Sale near New Brunswick

How much does the 2021 Mazda CX-9 cost?

Prices have softened 11.07% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 157 listings available, which suggests you have some room to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-9 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mazda CX-9 earns a 4.54/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth handling, reliability, and luxurious interior. That lines up well with the CX-9’s positioning as a polished midsize SUV that leans more premium than purely practical. If you want a three-row SUV that feels refined and thoughtfully executed, this model year fits that brief well.

The market also shows 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent chance of finding a strong value.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-9 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.54/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Reviewers repeatedly describe the CX-9 as reliable and trouble-free, with dependable day-to-day behaviour and a cabin that feels well put together over time. The expert assessment also points to a vehicle that has been carefully refined, with smooth operation and a strong sense of polish in how it drives.

Mazda’s attention to detail helps the CX-9 feel like something you can count on, though its premium ambitions do not erase the usual used-SUV ownership risks tied to wear, maintenance history, and how hard the vehicle has been used.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mazda CX-9?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GS starts with 18-inch alloy wheels, while the GS-L moves to 20-inch wheels. Higher trims add more standard features, and the GT brings a meaningful safety-tech upgrade with adaptive front lighting, a driver-attention monitor, front and rear parking sensors, reverse automatic emergency braking, and a surround-view camera system.
• Powertrain: Every CX-9 uses a Skyactiv 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard in Canada, and the engine delivers strong low-rpm torque, though it can feel winded as revs climb.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and rain-sensing wipers. The GT adds adaptive front lighting, a driver-attention monitor, front and rear parking sensors, Smart City Brake Support Reverse, and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: The CX-9 gets a 10.25-inch static display with Mazda Connect, plus Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and text messaging support. It does not have a touchscreen, and the voice recognition system is a weak point.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the CX-9 is supposed to use 10.5 L/100 km combined, though real-world testing returned 11.7 L/100 km.

Which 2021 Mazda CX-9 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 is offered in 5 trim levels: GS, GS-L, GT, Kuro Edition, Signature.

Here's the short version:

• GS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core CX-9 experience with standard all-wheel drive, the turbocharged engine, and the basic safety and infotainment setup. It makes sense if you want the Mazda driving feel without paying for extras you may not need.
• GS-L: This trim adds a step up in wheel size and is a sensible middle ground if you want a little more presence and equipment without jumping too far in price.
• GT: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds the biggest safety and convenience upgrades, including adaptive front lighting, a driver-attention monitor, parking sensors, reverse automatic emergency braking, and a surround-view camera system.
• Kuro Edition: Choose this if you want a more distinctive appearance and a more upscale feel without going all the way to the top trim.
• Signature: This is the luxury-focused pick, with premium materials and the most upscale presentation in the lineup. It suits you best if cabin finish matters more than value.

The GT is the trim where the safety package takes the biggest step forward, so it is the one to prioritise if driver-assistance features matter most.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mazda CX-9?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to compare options but still enough demand to reward quick action on well-priced examples.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 157 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.07% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $28,187 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mazda CX-9's resale value?

The current average of $28,299 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,823 CAD.

That price movement suggests the CX-9 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilises. If you buy at the right price now and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be starting from a more favourable ownership-cost position than someone who bought when prices were higher.

The CX-9’s premium feel and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand later, especially among shoppers who want a refined three-row SUV without moving into luxury-brand pricing. Even so, resale will still depend on mileage, condition, and maintenance history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.54/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-9 safe?

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, though NHTSA also notes four-star frontal-impact results for the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and rain-sensing wipers. The GT trim adds adaptive front lighting, a driver-attention monitor, front and rear parking sensors, reverse automatic emergency braking, and a surround-view camera system.

One limitation to keep in mind is that lane-centring assistance is unavailable, so the CX-9’s driver-assistance suite is helpful but not fully comprehensive.

Should I buy a 2021 Mazda CX-9 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.54/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021.5 updates bring a better infotainment setup and added safety features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $31,242 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $28,299 CAD average.
• It adds a more clearly defined five-trim Canadian lineup.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better value if you want the CX-9’s premium feel at a lower entry price, especially now that prices have softened. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model-year position, the 2022 is the cleaner alternative, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2021 and target the better-equipped trims.
