Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, smooth ride, impressive power, off-road capability, and luxury feel. The model also fits you well if you want a familiar two-row SUV with a premium-leaning character rather than the newer, larger interpretation of the name. At the same time, some owners note the lack of certain tech features for the price.

With 29.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room for you to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling SUV that many drivers are happy to live with over time, especially because of its spacious cabin, smooth ride, and strong power delivery. The review summary also highlights that many owners value its off-road capability and luxury feel, which supports the sense that it can be a vehicle you count on for varied use.

The expert review also describes it as a terrific all-arounder and an oldie but definitely a goodie, while noting that Jeep dealerships offer regular rebates and incentives that can improve the ownership equation. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age-related wear and the model’s known shortcomings can matter more than the badge and capability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from the affordable Laredo and Limited to the upscale Overland and Summit, with Trailhawk for serious off-roading and SRT and Trackhawk for high-performance driving. Base trims are more value-focused, while higher trims add more premium materials and equipment.
• Powertrain: The standard 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 makes 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 5.7-litre Hemi V8 makes 360 hp and 390 lb-ft. The V8 adds more punch and towing strength, but it also uses more fuel.
• Safety package: The ProTech II Package includes adaptive cruise control with full stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Some safety equipment depends on trim level.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 4C with Nav includes navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. It is responsive and easy to use, and it also supports SiriusXM services and voice commands.
• Fuel efficiency: The V8 is described as returning no better than 14.1 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test vehicle recorded 12.9 L/100 km on a mixed route.

Which 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 6 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit, Trailhawk, and Trackhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point if you want the Grand Cherokee formula at the lowest price, but you should expect a more basic equipment set than the higher trims.
• Limited: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it sits in the affordable part of the range while still giving you a more polished experience than the base trim.
• Trailhawk: Choose this if off-road use matters most, since it is the model’s dedicated adventure-focused trim.
• Overland: This trim moves you further into the upscale side of the lineup and suits you if you want more luxury without going all the way to the top.
• Summit: This is the most luxurious mainstream choice, with premium materials and a more upscale cabin feel.
• Trackhawk: Pick this only if you want the high-performance model with the 6.2-litre supercharged V8.

The safety package is strongest on higher trims, where Jeep’s ProTech II Package brings the full suite of driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 558 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.49% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $29,142 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $29,142 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,081 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside for a future seller. If you buy now, you are entering at a lower average price than the model commanded a year ago, which can reduce depreciation pressure in the near term. Strong demand for a well-known SUV with broad appeal can still support resale, especially if you choose a desirable trim and keep the vehicle in good condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, but IIHS gives it a Marginal rating for the driver in small-overlap frontal crashes, a Poor rating for the front passenger in the same test, and Poor headlights unless you upgrade to the high-intensity discharge units with automatic high-beam assist.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep’s ProTech II Package adds adaptive cruise control with full stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. The Summit test vehicle had the full suite, but availability depends on trim level.

The main safety caveat for you is that the crash-test results are a real weakness in an otherwise capable SUV.

Should I buy a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.49% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is the final version of the current-generation two-row Grand Cherokee before the redesign arrives.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $25,538 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $29,142 CAD average.
• It offers familiar styling and strong off-road capability.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $33,704 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $29,142 CAD average.
• It brings a redesigned, more sophisticated Grand Cherokee with a major technology upgrade.

The bottom line: If you want the familiar two-row Grand Cherokee formula and a softer used price, the 2021 is the sweet spot. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the better value play; if you want the newer design and tech, move up to the 2022.
