Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Hyundai Palisade earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 9/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, abundant features, comfortable ride, elegant design, and high-tech capabilities. That lines up well with the Palisade’s role as a midsize, three-row SUV aimed at families who want room, comfort, and a more upscale feel without moving into a full luxury badge.

You also get a strong mix of practicality and polish, which helps if you want a family hauler that feels more premium than the average three-row SUV. With 29.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its comfortable ride, spacious cabin, and abundant features. Reviewers also describe it as a model you can count on for family duty, especially when you value comfort and convenience over a stripped-down approach.

The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by highlighting strong performance, excellent safety, and a well-rounded ownership experience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright weakness and more about making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been cared for properly, especially given the Palisade’s premium-leaning equipment and pricing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Ultimate Calligraphy stands out with a different grille pattern, revised exterior lighting, additional lower body trim, unique 20-inch alloy wheels, upgraded interior detailing, and a simulated suede headliner. It also looks and feels more upscale than the other versions, while standard LED headlights were added for models that did not have them last year.
• Powertrain: Every 2021 Palisade uses a 3.8-litre V6 with 291 horsepower, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and standard all-wheel drive in Canada. It is tuned to feel composed and predictable, with enough power for everyday driving and towing.
• Safety package: Every Palisade includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, multiple lane-keeping systems, and a rear occupant alert system. Most trims add active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning, while Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trims add a Blind View Monitor.
• Infotainment: You can get either an 8-inch or 10.25-inch touchscreen. Both support dual Bluetooth pairing, but only the 8-inch system offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The larger screen still needs a wired connection for smartphone mirroring.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada predicts 11.1 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test vehicle matched that figure on the driving loop.

Which 2021 Hyundai Palisade trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, and Ultimate Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Palisade’s core space, comfort, and safety without paying for the more luxurious extras.
• Preferred: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while staying below the higher-priced luxury-focused trims.
• Luxury: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and the added safety tech that comes with the higher trim.
• Ultimate Calligraphy: This is the one to buy if you want the most premium presentation, the richest cabin materials, and the most fully loaded Palisade experience.

Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trims include the Blind View Monitor, which is a useful safety-package upgrade.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 285 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.83% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,298 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade's resale value?

The current average of $27,380 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,732 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price more competitively to stand out. If you own one, strong condition, desirable trim content, and a clean presentation matter more when the market has softened. A well-kept Palisade can still attract attention because it offers a lot of equipment and family-friendly appeal for the money.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade safe?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade earns top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Palisade includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, multiple lane-keeping systems, rear occupant alert, active blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and Safe Exit Assist. Most trims add an ultrasonic rear occupant alert system, and Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trims add a Blind View Monitor.

Highway Driving Assist is a standout feature because it combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assistance in a smooth, sophisticated way. It is not hands-free, so you still need to keep your hands on the wheel.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Palisade or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Critically acclaimed and selling well, it adds more standard equipment, expanded infotainment capabilities, and a new luxury-themed trim level.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,279 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,380 CAD average.
• It adds direct gasoline injection and keeps standard all-wheel drive in Canada.

The 2021 is the better value if you want a well-equipped Palisade at a lower price. If you are willing to spend more for the newer model year, the 2022 is the cleaner choice for buyers who want the updated powertrain details and can stretch the budget.

How does the 2021 Hyundai Palisade compare to the 2021 Kia Telluride?

Our experts score the 2021 Hyundai Palisade 9/10 and the 2021 Kia Telluride 9.3/10.

The Palisade is the more affordable used buy on average, while the Telluride carries a slightly higher market price and a stronger expert score.
