Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade a good car?

Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert assessment also describes it as financially smart to purchase and well equipped for family ownership, which supports the impression that it is built to be a trouble-free long-term choice.

Hyundai also backs the Palisade with five-year, unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance and five-year, 100,000 km warranty coverage, which adds peace of mind for used buyers. For you, the main ownership risk is that some examples may still reflect the higher-price expectations and minor cabin-quality concerns noted by owners.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Ultimate Calligraphy stands out with a different grille pattern, revised exterior lighting, additional lower body trim, unique 20-inch alloy wheels, upgraded interior detailing, and a simulated suede headliner. It also looks and feels more upscale than the other versions, while the cabin’s premium Nappa leather and suede headliner make it feel especially rich. If you want the most luxurious presentation, this is the trim to focus on.
• Powertrain: Every Palisade uses a 3.8-litre V6 with 291 horsepower, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and standard all-wheel drive in Canada. It also offers Eco, Comfort, Smart, and Sport driving modes, plus Snow mode and a Lock function for low-speed traction.
• Safety package: Every Palisade includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, multiple lane-keeping systems, and a rear occupant alert system. Most trims also add active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning, Safe Exit Assist, and the more sophisticated ultrasonic rear occupant alert system. Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trims add a Blind View Monitor.
• Infotainment: You can get either an 8-inch or 10.25-inch touchscreen. Both support pairing two smartphones to Bluetooth at once, but only the 8-inch system offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The larger screen still needs a wired connection for mirroring.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada predicts 11.1 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test vehicle matched that figure on the road.

Which 2021 Hyundai Palisade trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, Ultimate Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Palisade’s core space, safety, and V6 power at the lowest price. It is the trim most likely to leave you wanting more of the upscale touches that define this SUV.
• Preferred: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it moves you further into the Palisade’s comfort-and-tech sweet spot without jumping all the way to the top. If you want a well-rounded family SUV, this is the trim to focus on first.
• Luxury: This trim is the one to consider if you want more premium equipment and the added safety convenience of the Blind View Monitor. It suits you if you want a more upscale daily driver without paying for the full flagship experience.
• Ultimate Calligraphy: This is the most luxurious version, with the most distinctive styling and the richest cabin presentation. Choose it if you want the Palisade to feel as close as possible to a premium SUV.

Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trims add the Blind View Monitor.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 288 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.11% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $26,967 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade's resale value?

The current average of $26,967 CAD sits slightly below last year's $32,930 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be good news if you are buying now but less favourable if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, it means you may need to price competitively to stand out, especially if the market continues to favour shoppers. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should still hold attention, but the softer trend means resale expectations should stay realistic.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade safe?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade earns top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Palisade includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, multiple lane-keeping systems, and a rear occupant alert system. Most trims also add active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning systems, plus Safe Exit Assist. Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trims add a Blind View Monitor, and Hyundai’s Highway Driving Assist is a standout feature because it combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assistance.

One important caveat is that Highway Driving Assist is not designed for hands-free driving, so you still need to keep your hands on the wheel.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Palisade or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds more standard equipment, expanded infotainment capabilities, and a new luxury-themed trim level.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $31,661 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $26,967 CAD average.
• It adds direct gasoline injection and keeps standard all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and broad equipment. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2022 is the better path for buyers who want the latest version and do not mind paying a premium.
