Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade reliable?

The expert review also presents it as financially smart to purchase and a vehicle you can count on for family use.

Hyundai’s five-year, 100,000 km warranty coverage adds peace of mind for used buyers, though long-term ownership still depends on how well the vehicle was maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Ultimate Calligraphy stands out with a different grille pattern, revised exterior lighting, additional lower body trim, unique 20-inch alloy wheels, upgraded interior detailing, and a simulated suede headliner. It also looks and feels more upscale than the other versions, while the cabin’s quilted and stitched premium Nappa leather helps it feel especially premium.
• Powertrain: Every Palisade uses a 3.8-litre V6 with 291 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission, and Canadian models come with standard all-wheel drive. It is tuned to be quiet, predictable, and easy to drive, with enough power for everyday use and towing.
• Safety package: Every Palisade includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, multiple lane-keeping systems, and a rear occupant alert system. Most trims add active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning, while Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy add a Blind View Monitor. Highway Driving Assist is a standout feature, but it is not hands-free.
• Infotainment: Two touchscreen sizes are offered: 8 inches and 10.25 inches. Both can pair two smartphones to Bluetooth at once, but only the 8-inch system gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The larger screen still needs a wired connection for mirroring.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada predicts 11.1 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test vehicle matched that figure.

Which 2021 Hyundai Palisade trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, and Ultimate Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Palisade’s core space, safety, and standard V6 power at the lowest price.
• Preferred: This is likely the best-value choice if you want a stronger mix of equipment and everyday comfort without moving too far up the price ladder.
• Luxury: This trim is the better pick if you want more upscale features and the added Blind View Monitor.
• Ultimate Calligraphy: Choose this if you want the most luxurious presentation, the richest cabin materials, and the most premium-feeling Palisade experience.

Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy trim levels equip the Palisade with a Blind View Monitor.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 270 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.70% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,291 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade's resale value?

The current average of $27,291 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,413 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays competitive. A vehicle that has already moved down this much can be harder to price aggressively unless it is especially clean, well equipped, and well documented.

Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand later, especially for a family SUV with a reputation for comfort, space, and features. That kind of appeal can make the Palisade easier to move when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Palisade safe?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade earns top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Palisade includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, multiple lane-keeping systems, and a rear occupant alert system. Most trims also get active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning, plus Safe Exit Assist. Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy add a Blind View Monitor, and Highway Driving Assist is a standout feature for smooth lane-centring support.

One important caveat is that Highway Driving Assist is not designed for hands-free driving, so you still need to keep your hands on the wheel.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Palisade or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.70% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds more standard equipment, expanded infotainment capabilities, and a new luxury-themed trim level.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,672 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,291 CAD average.
• It adds direct gasoline injection.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want the strongest value and a broader spread of trims at a lower average price. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2022 is the secondary path to consider.
