How much does the 2021 GMC Canyon cost?

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon a good car?

Generally — the 2021 GMC Canyon earns a 4.25/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating, which points to a solid overall showing for used shoppers. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its value, appearance, and feature content, and they also like the spacious interior and luxury-like features for the price. That fits the Canyon’s role as a mid-size pickup that leans more toward lifestyle use than pure work-truck duty, especially if you want a capable truck for weekend adventures or projects without moving up to a full-size model. The market also shows 28.6% of listings as good or great deals, which supports a selective but workable shopping environment.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.25/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a truck that many owners find value-packed, well equipped, and appealing to live with over time. The review summary also highlights praise for its spacious interior and feature content, while the main cautions are ride stiffness, highway noise, and some concern about diesel power in certain situations. The expert assessment also describes it as a capable, enjoyable pickup, which reinforces the sense that it can be a dependable choice if you buy the right example.

If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is that age-related wear and a less refined ride may matter more than the badge or trim level.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 GMC Canyon?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Elevation Standard gives you 18-inch gloss-black aluminium wheels, signature LED running lights, the CornerStep rear bumper, black door handles and side mirrors, manually adjustable front seats, power locks, two USB ports, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The Elevation adds LED fog lights, remote start, body-colour door handles, a manually sliding rear window, a six-way power driver’s seat, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and aluminium interior accents. The AT4 adds a more rugged look with 17-inch dark metallic aluminium wheels, all-terrain tyres, red tow hooks, off-road suspension, and available underbody skid plates, while the Denali brings the most upscale equipment, including 20-inch polished aluminium wheels, chrome accents, LED bed lighting, a spray-on bed-liner, and a larger infotainment screen.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-litre four-cylinder makes 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque, but it has to work hard. The 3.6-litre V6 is standard on Elevation, AT4, and Denali, and it makes 308 hp and 275 lb-ft, while the available 2.8-litre Duramax diesel produces 181 hp and 369 lb-ft. The diesel can be appealing for torque and towing, but the six-speed automatic can limit how well it stays in the powerband.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes a rearview camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, front-and-side-impact airbags, traction control, and Teen Driver. The available Driver Alert package adds forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, and rear parking alert, and it is standard on the Denali but optional on other trims.
• Infotainment: The standard 7-inch touchscreen includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM satellite radio with a three-month trial. A larger 8-inch screen with navigation is optional on the Elevation and AT4 and standard on the Denali, which also adds HD radio and a wireless charging pad.
• Fuel efficiency: The diesel engine returns 11.8 L/100 km city, 7.9 highway, and 10.1 combined in rear-wheel drive, or 12.2 city, 8.4 highway, and 10.5 combined with 4WD. The base four-cylinder uses 12.2 city, 9.4 highway, and 10.9 combined in RWD, or 12.7 city, 9.9 highway, and 11.4 combined with 4WD. The V6 returns 12.9 city, 9.3 highway, and 11.3 combined in RWD, or 14.9 city, 10.9 highway, and 13.1 combined with 4WD.

Which 2021 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2021 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation Standard: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials plus useful truck-friendly touches like the CornerStep rear bumper and a 7-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Canyon, but it is also the most basic version.
• Elevation: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more complete comfort and convenience package, including remote start, automatic climate control, a power driver’s seat, and extra exterior polish. If you want a nicer daily driver without jumping to the pricier trims, this is the one to focus on.
• AT4: This is the right pick if you want the Canyon’s more rugged personality. It adds off-road suspension, all-terrain tyres, red tow hooks, heated front seats, and the V6 with 4WD, making it the most adventure-ready choice in the lineup.
• Denali: This is the luxury-leaning trim, with the biggest screen, premium audio, heated-and-cooled front seats, wireless charging, and the most upscale exterior and interior details. It suits you best if comfort and features matter more than price.

The Driver Alert package is standard on the Denali and optional on other trims, so shoppers who want those safety aids should pay close attention to trim choice.

Should I buy a 2021 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.49% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.25/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The refreshed styling and new AT4 trim give it a more rugged, big-truck look.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $37,245 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $34,490 CAD average.
• It adds a Denali Black Edition package and renames the High Elevation package.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and inventory is available. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly updated package strategy, the 2022 is the alternative to watch.
