How much does the 2021 GMC Canyon cost?

Prices have softened 12.47% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 93 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon a good car?

Generally — 4.3/5 owners’ rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating point to a truck that lands well with shoppers. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its value, appearance, and feature content, along with the spacious interior and luxury-like touches for the price. In use, that lines up with the Canyon’s full-size truck styling in a mid-size package and its appeal as a more lifestyle-oriented pickup for weekend adventures or project use.

There are trade-offs, though: some owners mention a stiff, loud highway ride, and the truck is not the most modern choice in the segment. Even so, 23.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as a truck they can count on for value, appearance, and features, and the feedback also points to a generally dependable ownership experience. The expert assessment adds that the Canyon is capable and enjoyable, which supports the idea that it can serve well over the long term if you choose the right configuration.

The main used-buyer risk is that age-related compromises and a few powertrain complaints can matter more as mileage climbs, so condition and maintenance history are important.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 GMC Canyon?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim comes with 18-inch gloss-black aluminium wheels, signature LED running lights, the CornerStep rear bumper, black door handles and side mirrors, manually adjustable front seats, power locks, two USB ports, and a standard 7-inch touchscreen. Higher trims add features such as LED fog lights, remote start, a manually sliding rear window, a power driver’s seat, automatic climate control, and more upscale interior touches. The AT4 adds off-road hardware and is the best-value choice if you want capability without moving all the way to Denali.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque, a 3.6-litre V6 with 308 hp and 275 lb-ft, or a 2.8-litre Duramax diesel with 181 hp and 369 lb-ft. The base gas four-cylinder has to work hard, while the V6 is the stronger all-round choice and the diesel is the torque-heavy option.
• Safety package: The Driver Alert package adds forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, and rear parking alert. It is standard on Denali and optional on other trim levels, so you should confirm whether a used example has it.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM satellite radio. An 8-inch screen with navigation is optional on Elevation and AT4 and standard on Denali, which also adds HD radio and wireless charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The base four-cylinder with RWD uses 12.2 L/100 km in the city and 9.4 on the highway. The V6 with RWD returns 12.9 L/100 km city and 9.3 highway, while the diesel with RWD is rated at 11.8 city and 7.9 highway.

Which 2021 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2021 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation Standard: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Canyon’s core styling and basic tech without much extra. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup, but it is the most stripped-back version.
• Elevation: This trim adds useful everyday upgrades such as LED fog lights, remote start, a sliding rear window, a power driver’s seat, and automatic climate control. It is the sensible step up if you want more comfort and convenience without jumping to the pricier trims.
• AT4: This is the standout value pick if you want the Canyon’s off-road-inspired character. It adds all-terrain tyres, red tow hooks, off-road suspension, heated front seats, and available skid plates, while keeping the truck’s more rugged personality.
• Denali: This is the most luxurious version, with 20-inch polished wheels, chrome accents, LED bed lighting, a spray-on bed-liner, a premium audio system, heated-and-cooled front seats, and wireless charging. It also gets the standard Driver Alert package.

The Driver Alert package is standard on Denali and optional on the other trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 GMC Canyon?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 23.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 93 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.47% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,360 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 GMC Canyon's resale value?

The current average of $34,608 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,537 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more selectively now, but it also means future resale values may stay under pressure if the market remains well supplied. For a seller, that makes condition, trim choice, and equipment especially important when it comes time to list. Trucks with desirable features and stronger buyer appeal should hold up better than bare-bones examples.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon safe?

The Canyon earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include a rearview camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, front-and-side-impact airbags, traction control, and the Teen Driver system. Teen Driver lets you limit speed and volume settings for secondary drivers.

The Driver Alert package adds forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, and rear parking alert. It is standard on Denali and optional on other trim levels, so lower trims may not have the same safety equipment.

Should I buy a 2021 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 23.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The refreshed face and new AT4 trim give this year a more current, lifestyle-oriented appeal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $37,163 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $34,608 CAD average.
• It adds a Denali Black Edition package and renames the High Elevation package.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want the refreshed look and a softer used price. If you are shopping on a tighter budget, the 2021 gives you the stronger value case, while the 2022 makes sense if you specifically want the newer packaging changes.
