What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford F-150?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XL is spartan, while the XLT adds more everyday usability and the higher trims such as King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited move into much more luxurious territory. If you want the best value, the XLT is the trim that most clearly balances equipment and price.
• Powertrain: You get a wide spread of engines, from the 3.3-litre V6 to the 5.0-litre V8, twin-turbo EcoBoost V6s, a 3.0-litre turbodiesel, and the PowerBoost hybrid. The hybrid is the most powerful option, but it is not the best choice if towing is your top priority.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, hill-descent control, and intersection assist are available, but some require extra cost on certain trims.
• Infotainment: Sync 4 brings Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and over-the-air updates. An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, while a 12-inch screen is available on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The PowerBoost hybrid is rated at 9.3 L/100 km combined with rear-wheel drive and 9.8 L/100 km combined with four-wheel drive. The hybrid can save fuel, but the gain is modest for a full-size pickup.

Which 2021 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Ford F-150 is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the work-focused starting point, but it is the most basic version and lacks the richer materials and convenience features found higher up the range.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without pushing you into luxury-truck pricing.
• Lariat: This is a strong step up if you want more comfort and convenience features while staying below the premium trims.
• King Ranch: This trim leans into upscale materials and a more luxurious feel, making it a good fit if you want a premium cabin.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want a more polished, high-end version of the F-150 with a luxury-first feel.
• Limited: This is the top-end choice for shoppers who want the most upscale equipment and presentation.

Ford’s Co-Pilot360 safety features are standard, while some driver-assistance items remain optional depending on trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford F-150?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,580 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.99% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $36,624 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $36,624 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,146 CAD.

That softer pricing can work in your favour if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices continue to ease. The current trend suggests the truck is still in demand, but not at the same pricing peak it held a year ago. If you plan to resell later, condition, mileage, and equipment will matter even more in protecting value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Ford F-150 safe?

The 2021 Ford F-150 earns a good rating from IIHS for roof strength.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard Ford Co-Pilot360 equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, hill-descent control, and intersection assist are available, though some features require extra cost on certain trims. Full crash-test ratings were not yet available at launch, so you should pay close attention to the exact safety equipment on any used example you are considering.

Should I buy a 2021 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.99% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a redesigned cabin, more technology, and the available PowerBoost hybrid powertrain.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $31,589 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $36,624 CAD average.
• It is described as a capable, versatile truck with strong performance and a comfortable ride.

The bottom line: If you want the newer truck with more technology and a broader feature set, the 2021 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 remains a sensible alternative with many of the same core strengths.
