Used 2020 Toyota Highlander for Sale nearPeterborough, ON

How much does the 2020 Toyota Highlander cost?

Prices have softened 8.93% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 233 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota Highlander a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, advanced features, and spacious interior, and many also highlight its family-friendly comfort and safety equipment. The expert review points to the Highlander’s calm, refined character, with a cosseting cabin and a quiet, premium feel that suits everyday family use. The main trade-offs are its poor handling and uninspired styling, so it makes more sense if you value comfort and practicality over driving excitement. With 25.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still decent market availability if you want to shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Toyota Highlander reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for the Highlander’s smooth, confidence-inspiring day-to-day use. The expert review reinforces that sense of durability by describing the powertrain as smooth and practically silent, which supports the impression of a vehicle you can count on over time. Toyota’s included first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about whether the cabin condition and maintenance history match the vehicle’s premium feel.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Highlander?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L trim is the most basic version, while higher trims add more upscale cabin details, prettier LED running lamps, and larger 20-inch alloy wheels on the top trims. The Limited and Platinum trims feel much more premium inside, with richer materials and more visual polish.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-litre V6 with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. It delivers brisk acceleration without much effort, but the soft suspension and loose steering mean the Highlander is tuned more for calm cruising than sharp responses.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and rear emergency braking are optional.
• Infotainment: The standard touchscreen is 8 inches, while the Platinum gets a 12.3-inch screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, but the system is criticised for low-resolution graphics and a layout that does not fully use the larger display.
• Fuel efficiency: The Highlander L FWD is rated at 11.9 L/100 km in the city, 8.3 on the highway, and 10.3 combined. With AWD, it is rated at 11.7 L/100 km city, 8.6 highway, and 10.3 combined.

Which 2020 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Highlander is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Highlander’s core strengths: a quiet ride, standard advanced safety features, and the same smooth V6 character as the rest of the lineup. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
• LE: This is the trim to focus on if you want a better balance of equipment and value. It builds on the base model without pushing the price as high as the upper trims, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• XLE: The cost-effectiveness content identifies this as the best value trim, and that lines up with its broader appeal. It is the sweet spot if you want a more complete Highlander without paying for the luxury-oriented upper trims.
• Limited: This trim is where the Highlander starts to feel especially upscale, with richer interior detailing and the kind of comfort that makes the cabin feel close to a Lexus. It suits you if you want the premium experience without going all the way to the top.
• Platinum: This is the most fully equipped version, with the largest touchscreen, a head-up display, and the most advanced presentation in the lineup. It is the right pick if you want the most technology and the most polished cabin.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, while some extra safety features remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Highlander?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 233 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.93% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,056 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Highlander's resale value?

The current average of $34,983 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,413 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more buyer-friendly, which can make future resale more competitive if you plan to sell later. If prices continue to normalise, sellers may need to lean more heavily on condition, mileage, and trim level to stand out. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should still attract attention, especially because the Highlander’s comfort-focused reputation remains a selling point.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Highlander safe?

The 2020 Highlander earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. A driver’s knee airbag and a special cushion airbag for the front passenger are also standard. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and rear emergency braking are optional, so you may want to confirm which features are fitted on any used example you are considering.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 redesign brings a quieter, more refined cabin and a premium-feeling ride.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $38,476 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $34,983 CAD average.
• Toyota adds more standard safety-feature technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and the model already delivers the comfort and safety strengths most family shoppers want. If you are willing to pay more for added standard safety technology, the 2021 is the better follow-up choice.
