Used 2020 Subaru Outback for Sale nearBurlington, ON

How much does the 2020 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 17.56% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 213 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Subaru Outback earns a 4.95/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, ample interior space, and strong safety features, and many also like its smooth ride and overall sense of usefulness. The Outback’s wagon-like practicality and all-weather capability fit well if you want a roomy family vehicle with broad everyday versatility.

The main trade-offs are the sluggish touchscreen response and the underwhelming base engine. Even so, the Outback’s standard all-wheel drive and roomy cabin make it a strong fit if you value space, value, and year-round usability.

There are 34.3% good or great deals in the market, which points to decent shopping opportunities.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.95/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable and trouble-free for everyday use, with praise for its long-term appeal and confidence-inspiring ownership experience. The expert evaluation also highlights Subaru’s active all-wheel-drive system and the low centre of gravity from the boxer engine as traits that support consistent power delivery and stable operation.

The cost-effectiveness commentary also notes that the Outback can be a strong value proposition, though you may want to watch for the technology issues mentioned in testing. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is more about frustrating tech behaviour than core mechanical durability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Subaru Outback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Convenience trim is more spartan than the higher trims, with dual 7-inch screens instead of the larger display and fewer comfort features. Higher trims add equipment such as a sunroof, power liftgate, leather upholstery, and ventilated front seats.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre engine is fine for most driving, while the 2.4-litre turbocharged engine in XT trims is better if you want stronger passing power, towing ability, or more confident mountain driving.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure alert with lane-keep assist. Blind-spot monitoring is not standard on the Touring trim.
• Infotainment: Most trims get the 11.6-inch touchscreen, while the base trim uses dual 7-inch screens. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth are included, but the system is known for lag.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-litre engine is rated at 9.0 L/100 km in the city, 7.1 L/100 km on the highway, and 8.2 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2020 Subaru Outback is offered in 7 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Limited, Premier, Outdoor XT, Limited XT, and Premier XT.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the value-focused starting point if you want standard all-wheel drive, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry, LED headlights, automatic climate control, and the core safety suite without stretching your budget.
• Touring: This is the first step up for shoppers who want the 11.6-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, a sunroof, a power liftgate, reverse auto braking, and blind-spot monitoring; it adds useful everyday convenience.
• Limited: This trim is the better pick if you want a more upscale cabin, with leather upholstery, a memory system for the driver, an upgraded Harman Kardon stereo, navigation, and a heated steering wheel.
• Premier: This is the best-value luxury-leaning trim if you want Nappa leather and ventilated front seats without jumping to the turbo models.
• Outdoor XT: This is the one to choose if you want the turbo engine plus heated rear seats, a front-view camera, hill-descent control, and a more aggressive X-Mode setup, along with unique exterior cladding.
• Limited XT: This trim mirrors the Limited but adds the turbocharged engine for buyers who want more power with the upscale features.
• Premier XT: This is the top choice if you want the Premier’s comfort upgrades plus the turbo engine.

EyeSight is standard, but blind-spot monitoring is not standard on the Touring trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Subaru Outback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 213 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.56% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,231 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $23,409 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,394 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the Outback easier to buy now but may also mean less upside for a future seller in the short term. If you own one, the softer pricing trend means you should expect more competition from similarly priced listings when it comes time to sell.

Even so, the Outback’s broad appeal, standard all-wheel drive, and strong value reputation should help it remain attractive to used buyers. Well-equipped trims may hold up better if they combine desirable features with the model’s usual practicality.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.95/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2020 Subaru Outback earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes EyeSight with adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure alert, and lane-keep assist. Standard all-wheel drive also adds confidence in poor weather.

DriverFocus is the main caveat, since it can be overly intrusive and frustrating in use. Blind-spot monitoring is also not standard on the Touring trim.

Should I buy a 2020 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.56% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.95/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 brings a major update with a larger touchscreen, fresh safety tech, and new engines.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $26,505 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $23,409 CAD average.
• It leans harder into practicality, reliability, low running costs, and strong resale value.

The bottom line: If you want the better bargain, the 2020 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and inventory is decent. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2021 is worth considering for buyers who prioritise practicality and long-term value over upfront savings.
