How much does the 2020 MINI Cooper cost?

There are 80 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 MINI Cooper a good car?

The 2020 MINI Cooper earns an expert rating of 7.33/10.

The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

It stands out for its historic, instantly recognisable design and its playful driving character, while also moving toward an electric future. That makes it a strong fit if you want a small car with personality rather than something conventional. The trade-offs are clear, though: advanced safety features are not standard, the back seat is cramped, and cargo space is limited.

30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 MINI Cooper reliable?

The 2020 MINI Cooper is presented as a car that prioritises style and driving enjoyment, but it also asks you to accept some compromises in everyday usability.

Its performance character is built around a short wheelbase, low curb weight, and torquey engines, which should make it feel lively and engaging in daily driving. The cost-effectiveness coverage also points to the appeal of avoiding gas-station visits in the electric version, which can reduce some running-cost pressure.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the car’s charm comes with practical trade-offs, so you should be prepared for a smaller cabin and limited cargo flexibility over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 MINI Cooper?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin has a premium feel, but the base setup leaves out some of the convenience and safety equipment you may want. The Premier+ package adds front and rear parking sensors, and the top-tier SE also includes a wireless charging pad and a head-up display.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 1.5-litre turbo three-cylinder, a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder in the Cooper S, or an electric motor in the SE. The SE uses a 32.6-kWh battery and is tuned for quick low-speed response, while the gas models use either a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic or, in the John Cooper Works trim, an eight-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Forward-collision warning is standard, but automatic emergency braking is unavailable. The car’s rear-view camera system is included, and the Premier+ package adds front and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: The standard touchscreen is 6.5 inches and includes Bluetooth, navigation, and Apple CarPlay, but not Android Auto. The SE Premier+ gets an 8.8-inch screen, plus a wireless charging pad and a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The base Cooper hardtop is rated at 8.4 L/100 km city, 6.5 L/100 km highway, and 7.5 L/100 km combined. The Cooper S is rated at 8.9/6.6/7.9 L/100 km, while the Cooper SE is rated at 2.2 Le/100 km combined.

Which 2020 MINI Cooper trim should I buy?

The 2020 MINI Cooper is offered in 3 trim levels: Classic, Premier, and Premier+.

Here's the short version:

• Classic: This is the entry point if you want the MINI look and core driving character without stretching the budget. It gives you the basic Cooper experience, but you should expect fewer convenience and safety features than the higher trims.
• Premier: This is the trim to focus on if you want a better balance of equipment and value. It adds more of the features that make the cabin feel more complete, while still keeping the MINI’s playful personality intact.
• Premier+: This is the best choice if you want the most complete version of the Cooper SE experience. It adds the 8.8-inch screen, wireless charging pad, head-up display, and parking sensors, making it the most appealing option if you plan to keep the car for daily use.

The safety package is limited overall, so even higher trims do not fully close the gap in advanced driver assistance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 MINI Cooper?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 80 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.18% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,879 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 MINI Cooper's resale value?

The current average of $20,186 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,726 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the car easier to buy now than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that also means you may not see the same level of price support if the market stays soft. If you buy at the right number, though, the current pricing gives you a better starting point than last year’s average.

Is the 2020 MINI Cooper safe?

The 2020 MINI Cooper received Good scores in all crash tests from IIHS.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward-collision warning is standard, but automatic emergency braking is unavailable. Front and rear parking sensors were included with the Premier+ package, and the rear-view camera system is part of the safety picture as well. The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should not assume a fully loaded driver-assistance suite on every used example.

Should I buy a 2020 MINI Cooper or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.18% compared with last year.
• The year’s standout appeal is its blend of timeless design, playful driving character, and the added electric powertrain option.

The bottom line: If you want the MINI Cooper’s distinctive style and fun-to-drive personality, the 2020 model is a sensible place to shop because pricing has eased and there is enough inventory to compare. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep watching the market for a listing near the low end of the range, but if you want the best mix of character and value, the 2020 is the stronger starting point.
