How much does the 2020 MINI Cooper cost?

There are 89 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2020 MINI Cooper a good car?

The 2020 MINI Cooper earns an expert rating of 7.3/10.

The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

It stands out for its timeless design, playful driving character, short wheelbase, low curb weight, and torquey engines, and it also gives you multiple powertrain options and multiple body styles. The trade-offs are familiar for this kind of car: advanced safety features are not standard, the back seat is cramped, and cargo space is limited. For you, that means it makes the most sense if you value personality and city-friendly agility over maximum practicality.

With 33.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is a decent amount of market value to work with.

Is the 2020 MINI Cooper reliable?

The 2020 MINI Cooper is presented as a small premium-feeling car with a playful driving character, and the expert review also points to a low curb weight and torquey engines as part of its appeal. The electric version adds a different kind of efficiency-focused ownership experience, while the gas models keep the classic MINI formula intact.

From a dependability standpoint, the expert review notes that the car’s performance is lively and that the electric motor’s torque delivery feels immediate, while the cost-effectiveness commentary highlights the appeal of avoiding gas-station visits in the electric version. If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is that a small, feature-rich car like this can be more sensitive to condition and maintenance history than a simpler commuter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 MINI Cooper?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is defined by circular design elements, a premium feel, and a distinctive layout, but the test car also lacked a lot of advanced safety tech present in other similarly priced cars. Front and rear parking sensors were included with the Premier+ package, so you should check whether the car you’re considering has the equipment you want.
• Powertrain: The electric motor makes 181 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque, and the battery pack is 32.6 kWh. Gas-powered versions use either a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission or an eight-speed automatic in the John Cooper Works trim, and no manual transmission is offered for 2020.
• Safety package: Forward-collision warning is standard, but automatic emergency braking is unavailable. Front and rear parking sensors were included with the Premier+ package, and the rear-view camera system looked sharp.
• Infotainment: The touchscreen measures 6.5 inches on the tested model, and it includes Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, and Apple CarPlay, but not Android Auto. The Premier+ trim gets an 8.8-inch screen, plus a wireless charging pad and a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The base Cooper hardtop returns 8.4 L/100 km in the city, 6.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 7.5 L/100 km combined. The Cooper S is rated at 8.9/6.6/7.9 L/100 km, and the electric version earns a 2.2 litres-equivalent per 100 km combined rating.

Which 2020 MINI Cooper trim should I buy?

The 2020 MINI Cooper is offered in 3 trim levels: Classic, Premier, and Premier+.

Here's the short version:

• Classic: This is the entry point if you want the MINI look and driving character without stretching for extras. It gives you the core formula, but you should expect fewer convenience and tech features than the higher trims.
• Premier: This is the trim that makes the most sense for many shoppers because it adds more equipment without pushing all the way to the top. If you want a better balance of value and features, this is the one to focus on first.
• Premier+: This is the best choice if you want the most complete version of the car, including the larger 8.8-inch screen, wireless charging pad, and head-up display. It also aligns with the test car’s more premium equipment mix.

Front and rear parking sensors were included with the Premier+ package, while forward-collision warning is standard and automatic emergency braking is unavailable.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 MINI Cooper?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 89 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.55% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,868 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 MINI Cooper's resale value?

The current average of $19,877 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,730 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can be helpful if you’re buying now but less favourable if you’re planning to sell soon. If you own one, you may need to price it competitively to stand out. For a future seller, the upside is that the car’s distinctive styling and personality can still help it hold appeal with the right buyer.

Is the 2020 MINI Cooper safe?

The 2020 MINI Cooper received Good scores in all crash tests from the IIHS.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward-collision warning is standard, but automatic emergency braking is unavailable. Front and rear parking sensors were included with the Premier+ package, and the rear-view camera system looked sharp. The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should pay close attention to the equipment on the specific car you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2020 MINI Cooper or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.55% compared with last year.
• The new electric powertrain option and the model’s playful, personality-first character matter to you.

The bottom line: If you want the MINI Cooper’s distinctive style and lively feel, the 2020 model is a strong pick, especially if you value the added electric option. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and use the softened market to your advantage.
