Used 2020 Hyundai Kona for Sale nearSt. John's, NL

How much does the 2020 Hyundai Kona cost?

Prices have softened 14.17% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 307 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Kona a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Hyundai Kona earns a 4.68/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its fun driving experience, responsive handling, and stylish design. They also like the good features and fuel efficiency, which line up well with the Kona’s personality-first appeal.

The trade-offs are clear: the interior uses hard plastics, and cargo space is limited. That matters if you want maximum practicality, but the Kona makes more sense if you value a small crossover that feels lively and distinctive on the road.

The overview points to a subcompact crossover that gives you all-wheel drive availability, a higher seating position, and hatchback practicality, so it suits you best if you want personality and road manners more than maximum space.

With 29.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Kona reliable?

Owners rate it 4.68/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with owners repeatedly highlighting its good features, fuel efficiency, and enjoyable driving character. That combination usually matters most when you want a used vehicle you can count on over time.

The expert notes also support that impression by describing the Kona as a well-equipped small crossover with strong road manners and a chassis that feels carefully developed.

Hyundai’s maintenance and ownership reputation can help, but you should still watch for signs of hard use, especially because the Kona’s compact packaging means wear and tear can show up quickly in a used example.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Kona?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model gives you a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, proximity entry, heated front seats, and heated side mirrors. Higher trims add a sunroof, adaptive cruise control, and an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation, so the feature gap is meaningful if you want more convenience.
• Powertrain: You get a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre engine in the lower grades and a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine in the higher trims. The turbo model brings stronger acceleration and standard all-wheel drive, while the non-turbo version uses a 6-speed automatic and can be had with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: The Kona includes forward emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver attention monitor as standard equipment. Pedestrian detection is reserved for the Ultimate, and the model does not include front knee airbags or rear side airbags.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims can add an 8-inch screen with navigation, and the system is described as high-res and easy to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The 1.6T AWD is rated at 9.0 L/100 km city, 8.0 highway, and 8.6 combined. The 2.0 AWD returns 9.2 city, 7.8 highway, and 8.6 combined, while front-wheel-drive versions can do 7.9 combined.

Which 2020 Hyundai Kona trim should I buy?

The 2020 Hyundai Kona is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Trend, Luxury.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Kona experience with the standard infotainment and comfort features. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is the least compelling choice if you care about the richer equipment that helps the Kona stand out.
• Preferred: This is the better-value choice if you want a more complete everyday package without jumping too far up the price ladder. It adds useful equipment over the base model and keeps the Kona’s strengths intact without pushing you into the pricier turbo territory.
• Trend: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it brings the 1.6-litre turbo engine, standard all-wheel drive, and the features most drivers will want. If you care most about the Kona’s driving character, this is the one to target.
• Luxury: This trim adds more comfort and convenience equipment, including a sunroof and adaptive cruise control. It suits you if you want a more upscale small crossover and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, with forward emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver attention monitor standard on every Kona.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Kona?

The market looks moderate and selective buyers should find some room to negotiate.

• Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 307 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.17% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $17,582 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The current average of $17,582 CAD sits slightly below last year's $20,484 CAD.

That drop suggests the Kona has moved into a more buyer-friendly pricing zone, which can help you if you are shopping now. For a future seller, it means you may need to price carefully to stay competitive, especially against other small crossovers with stronger space or value credentials.

The good news is that the Kona still has clear appeal thanks to its styling and driving character. Those traits can help support demand when you eventually sell, even if the market remains sensitive to condition, trim, and mileage.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.68/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Kona safe?

The 2020 Kona scored five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with five-star ratings for driver and passenger in the frontal test and for driver and rear passenger in the side test, plus a four-star rollover rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Kona also earned a 2020 Top Safety Pick from IIHS for its Good crash-test results, optional LED headlights, and Superior-rated forward emergency braking. That system is standard on every Kona, along with lane-keep assist and a driver attention monitor.

One caveat is that pedestrian detection is only available on the Ultimate, and the IIHS noted a lower score for detecting a person than another vehicle. The Kona also does not include front knee airbags or rear side airbags.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.17% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.68/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 brings a new trim level and more standard driver assists.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,025 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $17,582 CAD average.
• It adds a broader trim lineup and remains a value-forward small crossover.

The bottom line: If you want the better price and the core Kona formula, the 2020 is the smarter buy. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year with a wider trim spread, the 2021 is worth a look. Price-sensitive buyers should start with the 2020 and focus on the Trend trim.
