Is the 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty a good car?

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty is a strong fit if you need heavy-duty capability and want enough trim and powertrain variety to match work, family, or road-trip use. It earns 3/5 from users and 8.2/10 from our experts.

The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Its biggest strengths are the broad trim range, multiple body styles, and multiple powertrain options, which make it adaptable to different jobs and budgets. The trade-offs are straightforward: the styling is uninspired, and the touchscreen response is sluggish.

With 18.4% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively rather than rushing into the first truck you see.

Is the 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty reliable?

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty is built around serious capability, and the expert assessment points to a truck that is well suited to hard use. Its performance credentials are strong, with multiple engine choices and substantial towing and payload numbers, and the truck’s work-focused layout supports that mission.

The performance notes also suggest that the truck’s size and height can make it feel chattery over bumps when it is not towing or hauling, which is worth keeping in mind if you plan to use it as a daily driver. Ford’s cost-effectiveness notes also point to a truck that can be budget-conscious for its class if you choose the right trim and powertrain.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a truck built for heavy-duty work may have been used hard, so condition and maintenance history matter more than odometer reading alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is the most basic work-truck version, with vinyl seats, manual climate control, a small instrument-panel menu screen, and a basic stereo. The XLT adds more comfort and convenience, including SYNC 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Higher trims add more luxury and convenience, but the base truck is the one most likely to feel sparse if you want everyday comfort.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 6.2-litre gas V8, a 7.3-litre gas V8, or a 6.7-litre turbodiesel Power Stroke V8. The gas engines are strong, and the diesel brings the most torque. The truck is also available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive with low range.
• Safety package: The truck comes standard with airbags, automatic high beams, traction control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The XLT adds automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring, including trailer coverage. The Lariat adds a reverse-sensing system, while the King Ranch adds lane departure warning and makes Pro Trailer Backup Assist standard. The Platinum adds adaptive cruise control and adaptive steering.
• Infotainment: SYNC 3 is the main system, and it includes an 8-inch touchscreen on the XLT along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is generally intuitive, but it can have occasional hiccups, and switching between CarPlay and Ford menus is not seamless.
• Fuel efficiency: Owners report average fuel efficiency of around 20.5 litres per 100 kilometres with the 6.2-litre gas engine. The 7.3-litre gas engine returns around 17 to 20 L/100 km. The Power Stroke diesel can return as little as 12 or 13 L/100 km on the highway, though it can also run around 20 L/100 km.

Which 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most work-focused choice, with the simplest cabin and the lowest starting point. It makes sense if you want the truck’s core capability and do not need much in the way of comfort or tech.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds SYNC 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, more useful cabin equipment, and key safety upgrades such as automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring.
• Lariat: This is the right step up if you want a more comfortable daily driver, with leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, power front seats, and power-adjustable pedals.
• King Ranch: This trim leans into a more upscale feel with unique styling, saddle-style leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and standard Pro Trailer Backup Assist.
• Platinum: This is the luxury-leaning choice, adding heated-and-ventilated seats, massaging front seats, adaptive cruise control, and adaptive steering.
• Limited: This is the top-end option if you want the most equipment, including power-retractable running boards, a panoramic dual-panel sunroof, and a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system.

The XLT is the best-value trim for most used buyers, while the King Ranch and above make more sense if you want more comfort and convenience. Safety equipment expands as you move up the range, with the XLT adding key driver-assistance features and the Limited including all listed safety features as standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to compare listings carefully and wait for the right truck.

• Deal availability: 18.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 103 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.06% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $53,857 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty's resale value?

The current average of $57,365 CAD sits slightly below last year's $59,791 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more truck for your money today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on trim, condition, and how well the truck has been maintained.

If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation later, especially if you choose a desirable trim and keep the truck in strong mechanical shape.

Is the 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty safe?

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty comes standard with a full array of airbags, automatic high beams, traction control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Higher trims add more advanced protection, including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, reverse sensing, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and adaptive steering.

The truck’s safety equipment is strongest once you move beyond the base trim, so if safety matters to you, the XLT is the minimum trim worth serious consideration. The available Pro Trailer Backup Assist also adds useful trailer-focused confidence for manoeuvring.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 18.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.06% compared with last year.
• For 2020, the F-350 gets a new 7.3-litre V8, expanded use of the new 10-speed automatic transmission, and a new off-road-inspired Tremor trim.

The bottom line: If you want the newer mechanical updates and a broad trim range, the 2020 is the better pick. If you are mainly focused on price, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2020 gives you a useful mix of capability, trim variety, and updated hardware.
