Is the 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty a good car?

It’s a strong fit if you want a heavy-duty truck that can cover work, commuting, family duty, and road trips, though the appeal depends on how much you value capability over polish. It earns a user rating of 3/5 and an expert rating of 8.2/10.

The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

The 2020 update adds a new 7.3-litre V8, broader use of the 10-speed automatic, and a Tremor trim, so you get more breadth in both capability and character. The trade-offs are straightforward: the styling is uninspired, and the touchscreen response is sluggish.

With 19.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty reliable?

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty is built around a proven heavy-duty formula, with multiple powertrain choices and a broad trim range that lets you tailor it to work or personal use. The 6.2-litre gas V8, 7.3-litre gas V8, and 6.7-litre turbodiesel all deliver more than enough power for heavy-duty duty, and the truck’s towing and payload figures underline that it is engineered for serious use.

Ford’s infotainment and towing tech are a practical strength here, especially the available trailer-focused features that make backing and manoeuvring easier. The truck also offers a wide spread of equipment, from basic work-truck hardware to luxury features, which helps you choose a version that matches your needs.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a truck this capable may have been worked hard, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is the most basic work-truck version, with vinyl seats, manual climate control, a 2.3-inch instrument panel menu screen, and a basic stereo, while the XLT adds a larger 4.2-inch LCD screen, cloth seats, a power outlet, and SYNC 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen and smartphone compatibility. If you want more comfort and convenience, the Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited add progressively richer cabin materials and equipment.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 6.2-litre gas V8, a 7.3-litre gas V8, or a 6.7-litre turbodiesel Power Stroke V8. The 6.2-litre routes through a 10-speed automatic, and the truck is available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive with low range. The 7.3-litre and diesel options broaden the truck’s capability and efficiency range.
• Safety package: The truck comes standard with airbags, automatic high beams, traction control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The XLT adds automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring, including trailer coverage. The Lariat adds a reverse-sensing system, the King Ranch adds lane departure warning and standard Pro Trailer Backup Assist, and the Platinum adds adaptive cruise control and adaptive steering.
• Infotainment: SYNC 3 is standard on the XLT and above, with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a straightforward menu layout. The system is useful, but it can have the occasional buggy hiccup.
• Fuel efficiency: Owners report average fuel efficiency of around 20.5 litres per 100 kilometres with the 6.2-litre gas engine. The new 7.3-litre gas engine returns around 17 to 20 L/100 km. The Power Stroke diesel engine has a high of around 20 L/100 km, but it also can return as little as 13 or even 12 L/100 km on the highway.

Which 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most work-focused choice, with the simplest cabin and the fewest comfort features. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost entry point and do not need much beyond the basics.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many buyers because it adds SYNC 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more everyday convenience without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Lariat: This is the right step up if you want a more comfortable truck, with leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, power front seats, and power-adjustable pedals.
• King Ranch: This trim leans into upscale style and convenience with its unique two-tone exterior, saddle-style leather, ambient lighting, and memory settings. It also gets Pro Trailer Backup Assist as standard.
• Platinum: This is the luxury-leaning choice, adding heated-and-ventilated seats, massaging front seats, and more premium visual touches. It also gains adaptive cruise control and adaptive steering.
• Limited: This is the top-end version, with power-retractable running boards, a panoramic dual-panel sunroof, and a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system.

The XLT is the best-value trim for most used buyers, while the higher trims make sense if you want more comfort, luxury, or towing convenience. Safety equipment expands as you move up the range, with the XLT adding key driver-assistance features and the Platinum and Limited bringing the most advanced standard safety tech.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 19.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 104 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.85% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $53,837 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty's resale value?

The current average of $57,441 CAD sits slightly below last year's $61,665 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased for buyers, which can help you get into a well-equipped truck without paying peak pricing. For a future seller, it also means you should expect value to depend heavily on trim, condition, and equipment rather than assuming the truck will hold a premium automatically.

Because this is a heavy-duty truck with broad capability, well-kept examples should still appeal to buyers who need towing and hauling strength. Higher trims and desirable equipment can help support resale, but work use and mileage will matter a lot.

Is the 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty safe?

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with airbags, automatic high beams, traction control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The XLT adds automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring, including trailer coverage. The Lariat adds a reverse-sensing system, the King Ranch adds lane departure warning and standard Pro Trailer Backup Assist, and the Platinum adds adaptive cruise control and adaptive steering. The Limited includes all of those features as standard equipment.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 19.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.85% compared with last year.
• It appeals to you because Ford added a new 7.3-litre V8, expanded use of the 10-speed automatic, and introduced the Tremor trim for buyers who want more off-road focus.

The bottom line: The 2020 model is a smart pick if you want the updated engine and trim mix, plus the flexibility to choose anything from a basic work truck to a more upscale hauler. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully within this year’s softer market and target the lower end of the range.
