Is the 2020 Dodge Durango a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Dodge Durango earns 4.6/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its spacious interior, comfort, and smooth driving experience, and many also value its towing capacity and performance. That lines up with the Durango’s use case as a family vehicle that still brings a more muscular personality than many three-row SUVs. The trade-offs are that it feels a bit dated and advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Dodge Durango reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels spacious, comfortable, and smooth to drive, with many drivers also appreciating its towing ability and performance. That combination suggests you can count on it to serve as a capable family SUV if you choose carefully. The expert notes also describe it as a durable-feeling, long-term family hauler with a broad powertrain lineup. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the concept and more about finding one that has been maintained well, especially given its age and equipment spread.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Durango?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SXT is the most basic version, with a 7-inch touchscreen, three-zone climate control, and a six-speaker stereo, while higher trims add features such as heated seats, leather-and-suede upholstery, a power rear liftgate, navigation, premium audio, and more upscale cabin touches. The Citadel is the luxury-minded trim, and the SRT has its own more aggressive look and performance-focused details.
• Powertrain: The SXT, GT, and Citadel use a 3.6-litre V6 with 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The R/T adds a 5.7-litre Hemi V8 with 360 hp and 390 lb-ft, while the SRT gets a 6.4-litre Hemi V8 with 475 hp and 470 lb-ft. All engines use an eight-speed automatic and standard AWD.
• Safety package: The Durango includes airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, trailer sway control, and rear parking sensors, but high-tech driver-assistance features are not standard. The Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision avoidance, and lane-departure warning, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection are also optional.
• Infotainment: The SXT and GT use a 7-inch touchscreen, while an 8.4-inch screen is standard on the other trims and optional on the GT. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and higher trims add navigation, SiriusXM Travel Link, and premium audio.
• Fuel efficiency: The base V6 uses 12.7 L/100 km in the city, 9.6 on the highway, and 11.3 combined. The 5.7-litre V8 returns 16.7 L/100 km city, 10.9 highway, and 14.1 combined, while the SRT uses 18.3 L/100 km city, 12.2 highway, and 15.6 combined.

Which 2020 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2020 Dodge Durango is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, Citadel, and SRT.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Durango experience with standard AWD, a 7-inch touchscreen, three-zone climate control, and a 12-way power driver’s seat. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is the least equipped.
• GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds 20-inch wheels, heated front and second-row seats, remote start, LED daytime running lights, a power rear liftgate, and leather-and-suede upholstery. It also keeps the Durango’s family-friendly character while adding the features most buyers will notice every day.
• R/T: This trim is for you if you want the stronger 5.7-litre V8 and a more performance-oriented feel. It also adds rain-sensing wipers, a power-adjustable tilt-telescoping steering wheel, and the 8.4-inch touchscreen.
• Citadel: Choose this if you want the more luxury-minded Durango, with chrome exterior touches, polished 20-inch wheels, a power sunroof, second-row captain’s chairs, and premium leather upholstery. It can also be had with the 5.7-litre V8.
• SRT: This is the performance flagship, with the 6.4-litre Hemi V8, performance-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes, and unique styling inside and out. It suits you if outright power matters more than value.

The Technology Group package is the key safety-related add-on on most trims, since advanced driver-assistance features are otherwise optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Durango?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 150 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.22% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,562 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $27,578 CAD sits slightly below last year's $32,530 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face more price sensitivity if the model continues to age without major updates. The Durango’s broad trim spread and strong performance image can still support demand, especially for well-equipped versions. Even so, resale will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Dodge Durango safe?

The Durango earns a four-star rating from NHTSA. It earns five stars in side crash testing and four stars in all other phases.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The Durango comes with a full set of airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, trailer sway control, and rear parking sensors. The R/T, Citadel, and SRT add front- and rear parking sensors. The main caveat is that advanced driver-assistance features are not standard; adaptive cruise control, forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection are all optional through packages or equipment choices. IIHS testing also showed a Moderate result in driver’s side small-front overlap testing, even though it scored Good in the other crash tests.

Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers muscle-car styling, multiple high-horsepower trims, and easy-to-use technology.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,791 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,578 CAD average.
• It adds a new infotainment system and the SRT Hellcat variant.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and inventory is available. If you want the newer cabin and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the better path.
