CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Volvo XC60
Summary
With 65 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,239 CAD, 41.5% of 2018 Volvo XC60 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Volvo XC60 4.89 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Volvo XC60 stands out as a premium compact crossover that blends Scandinavian design, strong safety credentials, and a genuinely upscale cabin. For this model year, Volvo gave it standard leather upholstery, heated front seats, “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights, and a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. It also came with standard all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission, while available options such as a panoramic sunroof, Nappa leather seats, a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, air suspension, and Pilot Assist added to its luxury appeal.
Safety is one of the XC60’s defining traits, and the 2018 model added steer assist to the City Safety system. The same technology also supported Oncoming Lane Mitigation and blind spot monitoring, both of which used steer assist to help reduce collision risk. Buyers looking at this year also get a choice of powertrains that includes a 250-horsepower 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four, a 316 hp supercharged and turbocharged inline-four, and a plug-in hybrid with 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. That breadth gives the XC60 a mix of efficiency and performance that helps it feel more modern than many rivals.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The available features and safety equipment make the 2018 Volvo XC60 especially appealing to families and buyers who value comfort, but the model is also described as having jerky acceleration and braking, along with tight rear-seat legroom. Even so, its combination of luxury, technology, and safety makes it a compelling used SUV for shoppers who want a refined everyday crossover.

Firstly, I am a Volvo fan. The biggest downside are the electronics. Everything is electronic. It is essentially a computer powered by a gasoline engine. I am still trying to learn how to adjust the settings. It has a long learning curve. However, the vehicle has a very smooth ride and is comfortable - just like all Volvos. The biggest benefit of Volvos is that keep going. I have had Volvos in the past with 250k miles. They were still going, but I just wanted something newer. I have the Inscription model and it is a bit of a gas guzzler, but I am working on that as I learn some driving techniques that may increase the MPG.

| Year-Round High | $26,083 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $26,043 CAD |

Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Volvo XC60 earns a 4.9/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its luxurious interior, smooth ride, and impressive safety features, and many also like the comfort and performance it brings to family use. In practical terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want a premium compact crossover with a refined cabin and a safety-first feel. With 40.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a healthy share of attractive options to consider.
Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also highlights a dependable, trouble-free feel for many drivers, especially those who value comfort and safety over flash. At the same time, some owners mention electronics concerns and potential reliability issues, particularly on higher-mileage vehicles. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is worth checking carefully, especially if the vehicle has seen a lot of use.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Volvo XC60?
It looks like a buyer’s market for this model year, with pricing down and a meaningful share of listings sitting in the deal zone.
- Deal availability: 40.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 64 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.46% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $21,063 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Volvo XC60's resale value?
The current average of $21,236 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,043 CAD.
That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be a challenge if you plan to sell in the near term. On the other hand, it may help you buy at a more favourable point in the cycle. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and maintain it well, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 40.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.46% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 XC60 is the better path if you want a well-liked luxury SUV with strong owner approval and a softer used-market price. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge.
