CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Honda Pilot
Summary
With 179 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,596 CAD, 33.5% of 2018 Honda Pilot listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Honda Pilot 4.67 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Honda Pilot stands out as a practical three-row SUV that blends family-friendly space with a car-like ride. It was the first three-row mainstream SUV built on a unibody platform, and that design helped set the tone for its comfortable, easygoing character. For buyers who need versatility, it can seat up to eight passengers, and it offers more third-row legroom and headroom than competitors such as the Ford Explorer, the Toyota Highlander, and the Kia Telluride. It also has a reputation for strong safety coverage, which is a major part of its appeal.
For 2018, the Pilot benefits from the third generation’s tech and safety upgrades. Honda Sensing was available for the first time on the Pilot in 2016, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were added in 2017, with standard availability in Canada. The 2018 model also carries the generation’s 3.5-litre V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic in lower trims and a nine-speed automatic in upper trims. That combination makes it a well-rounded choice for shoppers who want a capable, modern family SUV without moving to something more truck-like.
There are a few trade-offs. The Pilot lags behind some rivals in infotainment and fit and finish, and its interior materials can feel cheap. Fuel economy is only average, and some owners have reported mechanical concerns. Even so, the 2018 Honda Pilot remains appealing because it delivers space, comfort, and a long list of useful features in a package that is still easy to live with.

Nowhere to plug in or charge anything in second and third rows. Other than that it had everything we needed.

Features are pretty good. The trunk space is so tiny, won't fit a stroller. The 3rd row has no leg room.

How much does the 2018 Honda Pilot cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $23,409 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $23,409 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $27,406 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $27,419 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −14.62% |
Prices have softened 14.62% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 181 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2018 Honda Pilot a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Honda Pilot earns a 4.7/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its great value, spaciousness, and driving comfort, and many also like the roomy interior and rear entertainment system. That lines up well with its role as a practical three-row SUV for families who want space, comfort, and everyday versatility. With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2018 Honda Pilot reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback describes it as reliable, and many owners see it as a dependable SUV with a comfortable, family-friendly layout. The same feedback also points to some common mechanical concerns, including emissions-related issues, so it is worth checking service records carefully. For used buyers, that means the Pilot can be a sensible long-term choice, but you should still prioritise a well-maintained example.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Honda Pilot?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 181 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.62% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $23,409 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Honda Pilot's resale value?
The current average of $23,409 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,419 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the Pilot easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller if prices stay soft. If you own one, a lower entry price today can help support demand, but resale strength will depend on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.62% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 Pilot is a strong pick if you want a well-liked, family-focused three-row SUV and you value current market softness. If you are especially price-sensitive, it is worth comparing nearby model years to see whether a similar example offers a lower asking price or better deal share.
