CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Honda Pilot
Summary
With 11 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,995 CAD, 27.3% of 2017 Honda Pilot listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Honda Pilot 4.77 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Honda Pilot stands out as a practical three-row SUV that blends family-friendly space with a car-like ride. It is part of the generation that added major tech and safety upgrades, and by this point Honda Sensing was standard on all trim levels. That makes the 2017 model appealing to buyers who want a used SUV with a strong safety focus, easy-to-use technology, and the kind of everyday versatility that has long defined the Pilot.
It also offers useful cabin features that help it feel more modern and accommodating. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard in Canada, and the Pilot’s second row could be configured with Honda’s “magic” seats, allowing the middle seat to be removed and stored under the rear cargo floor. The model’s strengths are balanced by some drawbacks, though: the source notes average fuel economy, pedestrian performance, and interior materials that feel cheap, so it is best suited to shoppers who value space, safety, and convenience more than premium cabin feel or standout efficiency.

How much does the 2017 Honda Pilot cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,303 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $20,248 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $23,012 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $22,988 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −11.68% |
Prices have softened 11.68% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 207 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory for you to compare.
Is the 2017 Honda Pilot a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Honda Pilot earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its reliability, spaciousness, and useful tech features, and many also like the strong AWD capability and comfortable ride. In practical terms, that lines up well if you want a family-focused three-row SUV with easy-to-use technology and everyday versatility. With 29.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Honda Pilot reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback highlights reliability, and many drivers describe the Pilot as dependable and comfortable to live with over time. That said, some owners mention transmission performance concerns, so a careful test drive and service-history review are smart steps before you buy. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the drivetrain has been maintained properly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Pilot?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient and compare listings.
- Deal availability: 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 207 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.68% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $20,248 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Honda Pilot's resale value?
The current average of $20,303 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,988 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Pilot easier to buy now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you purchase at the right price, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. The model’s broad appeal as a practical three-row SUV should help support demand, especially among family buyers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.68% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the best mix of value, owner satisfaction, and modern family-SUV features in this generation. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth considering, but the 2017 is a strong choice when you want a well-equipped Pilot with broad appeal and a softer market price.
