Is the 2017 Hyundai Sonata a good car?

Generally — the 2017 Hyundai Sonata earns a 4.4/5 user rating, which points to solid owner satisfaction. Drivers commonly praise its dependability, affordability, and smooth driving experience, and many also like the good fuel economy and overall value for the price. In practical terms, that fits a midsize sedan aimed at giving you a lot of car for the money, with a roomy cabin and generous standard equipment for everyday family use. That said, the market still shows 32.3% of listings as good or great deals, so you have room to shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Hyundai Sonata reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to dependability and a generally trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with some also describing it as a car you can count on for daily use. At the same time, the review summary also mentions concerns around theft and engine reliability in higher-mileage vehicles, so used buyers should pay close attention to service history and inspection results. For long-term ownership, that means your risk is manageable if you choose carefully, but it is not a model you should buy without doing your homework.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Hyundai Sonata?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 130 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.04% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $11,212 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Hyundai Sonata's resale value?

The current average of $11,315 CAD sits slightly below last year's $12,043 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Sonata has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market. If prices stay near the current range, resale value should remain steady rather than strong, especially if similar cars continue to be plentiful. Well-kept examples with clean history and strong maintenance records should still stand out more easily than neglected ones.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Hyundai Sonata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a sensible choice if you want a well-equipped midsize sedan at a relatively approachable price and you’re willing to shop carefully for condition and history. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby year could also make sense, but the 2017 is the better fit when you want a balance of value, equipment, and buyer confidence.
