What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Accord?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Accord spans a wide range of equipment and budget needs, from the LX to the Touring CVT, with Sport and EX-L sedans in between. Base versions are more basic, while higher trims add the more upscale look and feel, plus navigation and safety technology upgrades.
• Powertrain: Most models use a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with 185 horsepower, while the Sport raises output to 189 hp. The V6 is reserved for the EX-L V6 and Touring V6 trims, and the car is sold exclusively with front-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, road-departure prevention, and adaptive cruise control. It is standard on the Accord EX-L and Touring with both engines, but you cannot combine it with the manual transmission.
• Infotainment: Every Accord gets Bluetooth with streaming audio, text-messaging support, a USB port, and Pandora Internet radio. The 7-inch touchscreen with HondaLink, Siri Eyes Free, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto is limited to the Touring and Touring V6 models.
• Fuel efficiency: On the expert test loop, the Accord averaged 9.6 L/100 km, versus an official combined rating of 9.4 L/100 km. On the open road, it could consume less than 7 L/100 km while cruising above 100 km/h.

Which 2016 Honda Accord trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda Accord is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX-L, Touring, EX-L V6, Touring V6.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point if you want the Accord’s core strengths without paying for extras. It suits you if you care most about value and a straightforward family-sedan setup.
• Sport: This trim adds a more athletic character, including the 189 hp version of the four-cylinder engine and larger front brakes. It is a good fit if you want the best blend of everyday value and a little more personality.
• EX-L: This is the best-value choice if you want a more upscale feel and access to the Honda Sensing safety package with both engines. It is the trim to target if comfort and safety tech matter most.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped four-cylinder model, with the upscale styling, 19-inch wheels, and the latest touchscreen infotainment system. Choose it if you want the most polished non-V6 Accord.
• EX-L V6: This trim is for buyers who want the stronger V6 powertrain without going all the way to the top trim. It makes sense if performance matters more than maximum equipment.
• Touring V6: This is the most complete Accord here, combining the V6 with the highest equipment level and the most advanced infotainment setup. It suits you if you want the most powerful and most feature-rich version.

Honda Sensing is standard on the Accord EX-L and Touring with both engines.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Accord?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 24.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 107 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.77% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $15,048 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda Accord's resale value?

The current average of $15,048 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,677 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Accord is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly. If you buy now, you may benefit from the lower entry cost, but a future resale will likely depend on how well the market holds up and how clean your specific vehicle is.

Because the model has broad appeal and a reputation for keeping ownership worries in check, it should continue to attract steady interest. Still, the current price trend means a seller may need to be realistic if they want to move the car quickly.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda Accord safe?

The 2016 Honda Accord earns top marks in every NHTSA and IIHS assessment except for four-star ratings for frontal-impact protection.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, road-departure prevention, and adaptive cruise control. It is available on every version of the Accord, but you cannot pair it with the manual transmission.

The main caveat is that rear cross-traffic alert and a traditional blind-spot warning system are not included. Instead, some trims use LaneWatch, which only monitors the right-side blind spot.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda Accord or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 24.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• Honda made a number of improvements to the 2016 model year, strengthening an already popular family sedan.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,597 CAD, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $15,048 CAD average.
• It is exceptionally well engineered and built to provide dependable service for many years.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced choice, the 2016 is the stronger pick thanks to its updates and still-reasonable pricing. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the more budget-conscious alternative and still brings the Accord’s core strengths.
