Is the 2016 Honda Accord a good car?

Generally — the 2016 Honda Accord earns a 4.38/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal with some clear strengths and trade-offs. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its comfort, reliability, and impressive gas mileage, and they also value the safety features and interior quality. That lines up well with the Accord’s role as a sensible midsize family sedan, especially if you want a car that balances everyday usability with a polished feel.

The model’s broad appeal is strongest if you want a comfortable, practical family car with strong fuel economy and a reputation for dependable ownership. The market also shows 27.2% of listings as good or great deals, which is a decent sign that you can still find value if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Honda Accord reliable?

Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback highlights reliability, and the expert review also frames this Accord as a good hedge against unanticipated expenses. That combination suggests you can count on it for everyday use, especially if you want a car that is built to provide dependable service over the long term.

Honda also positions the Accord as an affordable family car thanks to favourable reliability ratings, impressive fuel economy estimates, and low insurance costs. The main ownership risk for used buyers is that some units may still show the small quality issues and defects that a few owners have reported.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Accord?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the value entry point, while the Sport, EX-L, and Touring add more equipment and a more upscale feel. The Touring stands out for its 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, and more premium appearance, but the base car is missing some of the richer features you’ll find higher up the range.
• Powertrain: Most versions use a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine, with the Sport tuned to 189 hp and other four-cylinder models at 185 hp. If you want the V6, you need an EX-L V6 or Touring V6, and the car is front-wheel drive only.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, road-departure prevention, and adaptive cruise control. It is standard on the Accord EX-L and Touring with both engines, and it cannot be paired with the manual transmission.
• Infotainment: Higher trims get Honda’s 7-inch touchscreen system with HondaLink, Siri Eyes Free, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Every 2016 Accord has Bluetooth streaming audio, text-messaging support, a USB port, and Pandora access.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review records 9.6 L/100 km on its test loop, versus an official combined rating of 9.4 L/100 km. It also notes that the car can dip to less than 7 L/100 km on the open road at highway speeds.

Which 2016 Honda Accord trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda Accord is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Touring V6.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the least expensive way into the Accord, and it makes sense if you want the core sedan experience without paying for extra equipment.
• Sport: This trim adds a more athletic feel and is the best-value choice if you want a little more character without jumping to the pricier luxury-oriented versions.
• EX-L: This is the smart step-up if you want a more premium cabin and access to the V6 in EX-L V6 form.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped mainstream choice, with the richest feature set and the strongest upscale presentation.
• Touring V6: Choose this if you want the top-end powertrain and the most complete version of the Accord’s comfort-and-performance mix.

Honda Sensing is standard on the Accord EX-L and Touring with both engines, but it cannot be combined with the manual transmission.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Accord?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should have enough inventory to shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 103 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.37% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $15,606 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda Accord's resale value?

The current average of $15,706 CAD sits slightly below last year's $18,131 CAD.

That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, it means you may not see the same pricing strength that this model had a year ago, especially if supply stays healthy.

Even so, the Accord’s broad appeal, strong fuel economy, and reputation for reliability should help support demand. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment are likely to remain easier to move than less appealing trims or higher-mileage cars.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda Accord safe?

The 2016 Honda Accord earns top marks in every NHTSA and IIHS assessment except for four-star ratings for frontal-impact protection.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the key driver-assistance suite here, and it includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, road-departure prevention, and adaptive cruise control. It is standard on the Accord EX-L and Touring with both engines, and Honda also makes it available on every version of the Accord, with the caveat that you cannot combine it with the manual transmission.

The safety package does not include rear cross-traffic alert or a traditional blind-spot warning system. Instead, some trims use LaneWatch, which only monitors the right-side blind spot.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda Accord or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• Honda made a number of improvements to the 2016 model year Accord sedan, strengthening an already popular family car.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,707 CAD, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $15,706 CAD average.
• It stands out as an exceptionally well-engineered sedan built to provide dependable service for many years.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced choice, the 2016 is the stronger pick because it benefits from meaningful updates and still offers good market value. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the better budget path and still brings the Accord’s core strengths.
