2025 Nissan Armada vs 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLS

The everyman’s version of the Infiniti QX80, Nissan’s Armada full-size SUV, gets an expanded range for 2025. It’s still offered in familiar SL and Platinum trims, but Platinum Reserve has joined the roster along with, for the first time ever, a PRO-4X trim. We tested both new trims on a first drive program hosted by the automaker.

Verdict: Nissan has undeniably improved the Armada with this new generation, and the PRO-4X and Platinum Reserve trim levels both bring something new to the table. The PRO-4X adds just enough adventure-ready content to make it worth a look to shoppers who find that space appealing, while the Platinum Reserve challenges the value of stepping up to an Infiniti.

It could be said that the Mercedes-Benz GLS is the S-Class of SUVs, but that’s not entirely accurate. The S-Class sedan commands a significant premium over the GLS, while the legendary G-Class SUV is even more expensive than the S-Class. Nevertheless, for buyers who want a three-row SUV with a three-pointed star on its grille, the 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLS is the right choice. It offers more passenger room and cargo space than any other model in the automaker’s lineup.

Verdict: Large luxury SUVs are a lot more expensive than they used to be. While the 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLS can’t match them for sheer size and capability, its manageable dimensions, undeniable comfort, refinement, and rewarding driving dynamics make a strong case.
