2022 BMW X3 Reviews SummarySince its inception in 2003, the BMW X3 has grown to become one of the brand’s top sellers. And starting with its second generation (circa 2010), the luxury compact crossover has been built at BMW Spartanburg—the automaker’s only manufacturing facility north of the Mexican border. Incidentally, because Spartanburg is the global producer of every gas-powered BMW crossover besides the X1 and X2, the plant also boasts the highest production numbers of any BMW plant worldwide. One can speculate that the popular X3 has a lot to do with that. Last redesigned for 2018, the X3 receives a rather hefty mid-cycle refresh for 2022. Updates include design tweaks, new engines, more technology, and an expanded suite of safety features. (Interestingly, while the BMW X3 xDrive30e plug-in hybrid has been dropped from the lineup in the United States, it continues in 2022 in Canada. This model is not covered in this review.)
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE Reviews SummaryOnce ridiculed and now increasing in popularity at an alarming rate, the SUV coupe, a new vehicle type originated by BMW and copied by others to varying degrees of success, is taking over gated suburban enclaves. From Acura (remember the ZDX?) to Volvo (C40 Recharge coming right up), automakers are trying the concept on for size, and it doesn’t always fit. However, the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe, a low-roofed version of the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class SUV, is one recipe that works.

The exterior design was slightly revised to present a more aggressive stance, with a larger kidney grille and a black sensor bar for a unique look. The adaptive full LED headlights were slimmer, and the taillights featured a new design with a black surround and pincer claw-shaped brake light LEDs. The rear was updated with larger exhaust tips and a new bumper, complemented by an M Sport Package for xDrive30i models, specialized aero wheels, and new paint options. The interior of the X3 was clean and efficient, offering a variety of inserts, power-adjustable front seats, and a panoramic moonroof. The SensaTec synthetic leather upholstery was standard, with Vernasca leather as an option, and ambient lighting added to the overall ambiance.

The Nappa premium leather, Dinamica simulated suede headliner, and brushed aluminum trim added contrast to the dark cabin. Ambient lighting enhanced the driving experience at night. The interior design was simple yet complex, with a lack of traditional controls, but users could acclimate over time. The GLE Coupe's interior was spacious, with comfortable sport-bolstered front seats and a surprising amount of room in the back seat. The cargo hold was generous, expanding significantly with the rear seats folded down. Comfort upgrades included heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, heated rear seats, and a four-zone automatic climate control system.

The M40i variant boasted a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with a mild-hybrid system, delivering 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, achieving 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The M40i offered a more exhilarating driving experience with its sport brakes, adaptive suspension, and rear-oriented torque split. The mild-hybrid system provided an additional 11 horsepower during acceleration but did not improve fuel efficiency.
The 2022 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe was equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-6 engine, producing 429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. The GLE 53 Coupe featured a SpeedShift nine-speed automatic transmission and an AMG Performance 4Matic+ AWD system with variable torque distribution. The AMG Dynamic Select system offered multiple driving modes, and the adaptive damping control air suspension provided a comfortable ride. The GLE Coupe excelled in urban environments with its speed-sensitive steering and tight turning radius. In Sport+ mode, the SUV demonstrated impressive performance on challenging roads, with excellent grip and braking capabilities.
The 2022 BMW X3 offered seating for five, with ample room for passengers and cargo. The rear seats featured a 40/20/40-split, providing flexibility for storage. The SensaTec faux-leather seats were comfortable, with the option to upgrade to Vernasca leather for added softness.
