What should I look for when buying a used Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: The AMG E 53 wagon returns a Natural Resources Canada-rated 66 kilometres of electric range and is rated at 10.5 litres per 100 kilometres combined in hybrid mode.
• Infotainment: The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system includes a 12.3-inch digital driver display, a 14.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and augmented reality navigation.
• Safety package: In Canada, premium driver assist features are standard including adaptive cruise control, active blind spot monitoring, active intersection assist, active emergency stop assist, active lane change assist, active lane keep assist, active steering assist, automatic lane change capability, evasive steering assist, and congestion emergency braking.

Which Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers these trims:

• E 450 All-Terrain: The less-expensive wagon in the 2026 lineup, with a more rugged look and technology that can assist with light off-road travel. It suits you if you want the practical wagon shape with a more versatile character.
• AMG E 53 Hybrid: The performance upgrade, with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, height-adjustable air suspension, and a focus on rapid paved-road driving. It suits you if you want the quickest, most performance-oriented E-Class wagon and are willing to pay for the extra pace and equipment.

What Mercedes-Benz E-Class do most buyers choose?

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class years with the most listings are 2019, 2018, and 2020.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a wider selection of trims, body styles, and equipment combinations. They also usually make it easier to compare condition, mileage, and pricing across multiple listings.

What is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

Most model years in the table are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want more value than you would have seen a year ago. The steepest drops are concentrated in several newer and mid-cycle years, while a few older examples are moving more slowly. That mix suggests there are still pockets of strong demand, but the overall direction favours used buyers.

The 2015, 2020, and 2019 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

• 2026: 8/10
• 2024: 8/10

In Canada, premium driver assist features are also standard including adaptive cruise control, active blind spot monitoring, active intersection assist, active emergency stop assist, active lane change assist, active lane keep assist, active steering assist, automatic lane change capability, evasive steering assist, and congestion emergency braking.

For the safest used buy, the 2021 and 2022 models both post the highest confirmed score of 10/10.

Should I buy a used Mercedes-Benz E-Class now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −9.18% versus a year ago, and the 2023 model is at −7.53%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2019 model has the most listings at a current average price of $44,003 CAD. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers a refined cabin, strong comfort, and a prestige-heavy character that make it feel special even in everyday driving.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The heart of this PHEV is a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six engine paired with a 120-kilowatt electric motor and 21.2-kilowatt-hour battery, and Mercedes claims it takes as little as 3.9 seconds for this wagon to accelerate to 100 km/h.
