The 2012 Mazda3 i Touring Hatchback has just the right blend of features and practicality, all while getting about 36 MPG combined. The car is very reliable and has only needed the transmission control module replaced, and maintaining the car yourself is fairly easy if you have some ramps at home. My only complaints about this car are the interior buttons, some of which have stopped working or function intermittently, and the seat comfort. I previously owned a Nissan Altima, and the seats are much less comfortable in the Mazda for longer road trips, especially for someone who’s on the taller side. Between the sedan and hatchback, I would definitely recommend the hatchback for more space, though the sedan has an adequate size trunk. I enjoy having Bluetooth and the well layed-out steering wheel controls, though I wish I had opted for a model that had push-button start and keyless entry, which isn’t standard. Overall, the car is great for someone with a mid range commute (30-45 minutes), has plenty of space for everyday needs and the occasional road-trip, and has great features and styling for a relatively inexpensive economy car.

The shifting and steering is definitely Miata inspired. This along with some decent cargo capacity and gas mileage are the finest points to this car. Oh, and the value is hard to beat when anything worth buying is closer or over 20K.
