How much does the 2025 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 15.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 289 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2025 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2025 Subaru Outback earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

It stands out as a rugged wagon in a crossover-heavy market, and its long-roof shape gives you a practical alternative if you want something less common than a typical SUV. The ride is comfortable, and standard all-wheel drive adds everyday confidence. The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and sluggish touchscreen response.

With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Outback’s appeal is built around practicality, value, comfort, and strong safety ratings, which are all traits that usually support dependable day-to-day ownership. Its standard all-wheel drive and comfortable ride also point to a vehicle designed for regular use in varied conditions. The turbocharged engine and standard AWD system are described as working well together, while the base engine is called underwhelming rather than troublesome.

If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a trim or engine combination that feels less satisfying than you expected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Subaru Outback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Convenience and Touring trims use cloth upholstery and 17-inch wheels, while Onyx and Wilderness models get easy-to-clean StarTex synthetic leather and heated outboard rear seats. All trims but Convenience get a power moonroof and the 11.6-inch infotainment system, while Limited and Premier grades add DriverFocus, built-in navigation, and leather upholstery.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder makes 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, while XT and Wilderness models use a turbocharged 2.4-litre engine with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft. Both engines run on regular unleaded gas, and the CVT can feel slow to respond when you ask for more throttle.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist technology is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane centring, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. Touring and higher trims also add blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Most trims get a portrait-oriented 11.6-inch touchscreen, while the base model uses twin 7-inch displays. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, wireless unless you have the base model’s twin-screen setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.5-litre model is rated at 9.2 L/100 km city, 7.3 highway, and 8.3 combined. Turbocharged XT models rise to 10.6 city, 8.1 highway, and 9.5 combined, while the Wilderness model is rated at 11.0 city, 9.0 highway, and 10.1 combined.

Which 2025 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2025 Subaru Outback is offered in 5 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Onyx, Limited, and Premier XT.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the entry point if you want the Outback’s core strengths at the lowest cost, but you give up some of the nicer cabin and tech upgrades found higher up the range.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience without pushing you into the pricier luxury-oriented grades.
• Onyx: Choose this if you want the easier-to-clean StarTex interior and the more adventurous look and feel.
• Limited: This is the trim to target if you want leather upholstery, built-in navigation, and DriverFocus without going all the way to the top.
• Premier XT: This is the most upscale choice, and it adds the turbocharged engine, Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and the richest feature set.

Touring and higher trim levels also add blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Subaru Outback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 289 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.23% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $39,813 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $39,813 CAD sits slightly below last year's $46,967 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations if they want to move quickly. A softer market can pressure resale values in the near term, especially if more inventory is available and shoppers have room to compare. On the other hand, the Outback’s distinctive wagon shape and strong safety reputation can help it stand out when demand is steady.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2025 Outback received the top five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist technology is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane centring, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. Touring and higher trims also add blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. The system does keep the Outback in its lane, though it can make more side-to-side corrections than you may want.

Should I buy a 2025 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It remains one of the last remaining station wagons, giving you a distinctive alternative to a crossover.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $34,420 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $39,813 CAD average.
• It offers a broad trim range with feature-enriched updates and trim-specific aesthetic tweaks.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It has been redesigned with an SUV-like shape while keeping the practical strengths of its wagon predecessors.

The bottom line: If you want the current Outback’s distinctive wagon shape and strong value, the 2025 is the one to focus on. If your priority is spending less, the 2024 is the smarter price-sensitive play. If you’d rather wait for the redesigned direction, the 2026 points to a more SUV-like future.
