Is the 2025 Mazda CX-50 a good car?

Yes — the 2025 Mazda CX-50 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

The CX-50’s appeal comes from its stylish design, premium-leaning cabin, and engaging driving character. It is positioned as a compact SUV that feels more refined and more fun to drive than many rivals, while the hybrid powertrain adds efficiency to that sporty personality.

The trade-offs are clear: it does not offer much cargo space, rear-seat space is limited, and the technology is described as outdated. For you, that means the CX-50 makes the most sense if you value style and driving enjoyment more than maximum practicality.

With 34.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Mazda CX-50 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The CX-50 is presented as a well-rounded compact SUV with a strong emphasis on refinement, efficiency, and driving enjoyment. Its hybrid powertrain is described as a smart move because it brings proven hybrid hardware and better fuel efficiency to the lineup, while the overall package still feels polished and confidence-inspiring.

The performance tuning is a plus for dependability-minded shoppers because it is described as smooth, responsive, and composed, with the hybrid system delivering immediate power and the transmission designed to mimic a conventional automatic. The cost-effectiveness notes also point to meaningful fuel savings, which can help reduce day-to-day ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the CX-50’s limited space and older-feeling technology may age less gracefully than its mechanical strengths.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Mazda CX-50?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base GS-L trim gets the essentials, while the GT trim adds a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system and a more upscale feel. The hybrid model also stands out with red leather upholstery and a wireless charging pad in Canada.
• Powertrain: You’re looking at a 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid setup with three electric motors, 219 horsepower, 163 lb-ft of torque, and AWD. It is tuned for efficiency and everyday responsiveness rather than serious off-road use.
• Safety package: All models include frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a driver attention monitor, and automatic high beams.
• Infotainment: The CX-50 uses a 10.25-inch horizontal infotainment screen with a centre-console dial controller. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the touchscreen works only with those phone integrations.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is rated at 6.2 L/100 km combined, compared with 8.9 L/100 km for the standard engine and 9.4 L/100 km for the turbo.

Which 2025 Mazda CX-50 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Mazda CX-50 is offered in 2 trim levels: GS-L and GT.

Here's the short version:

• GS-L: This is the entry point and the best-value choice if you want the hybrid’s efficiency and core safety equipment without paying for extra luxury touches.
• GT: This trim is the one to choose if you want the more premium experience, especially the standard Bose audio system and the richer cabin presentation.

All versions include the same core safety suite, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the main driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Mazda CX-50?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 282 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.12% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $41,779 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Mazda CX-50's resale value?

The current average of $42,043 CAD sits slightly below last year's $45,760 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can put some pressure on future resale values if you plan to sell later. At the same time, the CX-50’s strong styling and appealing driving character should help it stay desirable with shoppers who want a more premium-feeling compact SUV.

Because the model has softened in price, you may have less downside protection than you would with a vehicle that is holding value more firmly. Still, a well-kept CX-50 with the right equipment should remain attractive to used buyers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2025 Mazda CX-50 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2025 adds an efficient hybrid powertrain to the CX-50 lineup.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $37,664 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $42,043 CAD average.
• It offers a rugged, outdoorsy character with standard all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: Choose the 2025 if you want the hybrid efficiency, stronger market selection, and the most up-to-date version of the CX-50’s appeal. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2024 is the better value path, especially if you can live without the newer hybrid setup.
