CarGurus Analysis: 2025 Subaru Ascent
Summary
- With 83 currently listed for sale and an average price of $45,271 CAD, 37.3% of 2025 Subaru Ascent listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Why it stands out
The 2025 Subaru Ascent stands out as a family-focused three-row SUV that was designed to feel distinctly Subaru. It offers standard all-wheel drive, seven- or eight-passenger seating, and a spacious cabin with plenty of practical touches. Subaru also gave it strong safety credentials, and the Ascent has been an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ every year it has been in production. For buyers who want a midsize SUV that leans into utility and all-weather confidence, those are major advantages.
The Ascent’s appeal also comes from its everyday versatility. It can provide up to 2,140 litres of cargo space with all the seatbacks folded, and its highway fuel economy can be as low as 9.4 L/100 km with 660 kilometres of driving range. The model’s family-friendly equipment includes features such as rear doors that open to 75 degrees, a convex cabin-view mirror, three-zone automatic climate control, and a long list of standard safety technology. It also has increased towing capacity, which broadens its usefulness beyond school runs and commuting.
There are some trade-offs, though. The Ascent’s fuel economy is described as unimpressive, its interior design is dated, and the third row is cramped. Even so, it remains a compelling used choice because it combines Subaru’s standard all-wheel drive with strong safety performance and a practical layout that suits larger families.

Is the 2025 Subaru Ascent a good car?
The 2025 Subaru Ascent is a strong fit if you want a family-focused three-row SUV with standard all-wheel drive, seven- or eight-passenger seating, and a practical cabin. It also brings useful everyday advantages such as up to 2,140 litres of cargo space with the seats folded, a highway fuel consumption figure as low as 9.4 L/100 km, and a driving range of 660 kilometres.
It is especially appealing if you value all-weather confidence, safety, and utility over flash. Subaru’s long-running safety record for the Ascent adds to its appeal, and the model’s family-friendly touches make it well suited to larger households and busy routines. The trade-offs are worth noting, though: fuel economy is not a standout, the interior design feels dated, and the third row is cramped.
Overall, it makes sense if you want a practical midsize SUV that leans into safety and versatility, and 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Is the 2025 Subaru Ascent reliable?
The 2025 Subaru Ascent is presented as a dependable choice for buyers who want a practical, safety-focused three-row SUV with standard all-wheel drive. Its appeal comes from Subaru’s strong safety credentials, a spacious and useful cabin, and a layout designed for family life and everyday versatility.
That said, the Ascent is not positioned as a low-maintenance luxury alternative or a standout for efficiency. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that you may be living with a vehicle whose strengths are practical rather than especially refined, so condition and maintenance history matter.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Subaru Ascent?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 88 listings available.
Should I buy a 2025 Subaru Ascent or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2025 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Consider the 2024 if:
- It offers standard all-wheel drive and strong safety in a familiar, value-oriented package.
The bottom line: The 2025 Subaru Ascent is the better pick if you want the newer model year and are focused on the Ascent’s core strengths: family space, safety, and all-weather confidence. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2024 is the sensible alternative because it keeps the same basic formula and may offer a lower entry point.
