Used 2024 Subaru Ascent for SaleNationwide

How much does the 2024 Subaru Ascent cost?

Prices have softened 22.27% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 169 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of choice in the market.

Is the 2024 Subaru Ascent a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated SUV with an expert rating of 6.8/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

The 2024 Subaru Ascent is aimed at you if you want a three-row SUV with standard all-wheel drive, substantial ground clearance, and a practical family-first layout. It is the only new Subaru SUV with three rows, and it continues with almost no changes for 2024, so it stays focused on the familiar Subaru formula rather than chasing flashier rivals.

The trade-offs are clear: fuel economy is unimpressive, the interior design feels outdated, and the lane-centering technology can be irritating. Even so, if you value a capable, straightforward midsize SUV with broad safety appeal, it remains a sensible pick.

34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2024 Subaru Ascent reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2024 Subaru Ascent leans into Subaru’s safety-first reputation with standard all-wheel drive, a high-strength steel platform, and a broad suite of driver assistance features. Its turbocharged 2.4-litre engine is paired with a CVT and standard AWD, and Subaru says the SUV can tow up to 2,270 kilograms, which supports its role as a practical family hauler.

The performance notes also point to a vehicle that is comfortable in everyday use, from city driving to gravel roads and highway trips. Subaru’s EyeSight system is a major part of the ownership experience, but the lane-centring assist can be frustrating in real-world use.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the same fuel-thirsty powertrain and intrusive lane-centering behaviour may continue to shape your day-to-day experience.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Subaru Ascent?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup runs from Convenience to Touring, Onyx, Limited, and Premier. The base trim misses some higher-end equipment, while Touring adds a panoramic sunroof in Canada and unlocks blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and reverse automatic braking. Premier brings premium Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and a surround-view camera.
• Powertrain: Every 2024 Ascent uses a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and standard all-wheel drive with active torque vectoring. It is tuned more for everyday usability than sporty driving, and fuel economy is a weak point.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and reverse automatic braking are not standard on Convenience.
• Infotainment: You get an 11.6-inch portrait touchscreen with Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and text-messaging capability. Navigation and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon system are available higher up the range, and the display can wash out in direct sunlight.
• Fuel efficiency: The official fuel consumption figures are 12.3 L/100 km in the city, 9.4 L/100 km on the highway, and 11.0 L/100 km combined. Real-world testing returned 14.0 L/100 km in the city and 12.6 L/100 km overall.

Which 2024 Subaru Ascent trim should I buy?

The 2024 Subaru Ascent is offered in 5 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Onyx, Limited, Premier.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Ascent formula: standard all-wheel drive, the turbocharged 2.4-litre engine, and the EyeSight safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but you give up some useful safety and comfort upgrades.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a panoramic sunroof in Canada and unlocks blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and reverse automatic braking. If you want a more complete family SUV without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the one to focus on.
• Onyx: This trim is part of the refreshed lineup and brings the blacked-out look mentioned in the model summary. It suits you if style matters and you want a more distinctive appearance.
• Limited: This is where the Ascent starts to feel more upscale, with a navigation system and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system included. It is a good fit if you want more comfort and tech without going all the way to the top.
• Premier: This is the most fully equipped version, with premium Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a surround-view camera, and the rest of Subaru’s available Ascent equipment. Choose it if you want the most features and the most polished experience.

The safety-package step-up from Convenience to Touring is worth paying attention to, since that trim unlocks important driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Subaru Ascent?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 169 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 22.27% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $37,115 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Subaru Ascent's resale value?

The current average of $37,115 CAD sits slightly below last year's $47,751 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit how much value you recover later if prices stay soft. For a future seller, the current trend means you should expect more competition from similarly priced listings and may need to price aggressively to move the vehicle.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Subaru Ascent safe?

The 2024 Subaru Ascent earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in all NHTSA assessments except rollover resistance, where it earns a four-star accolade.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard EyeSight suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. That gives you a strong baseline of active safety equipment.

One important caveat is that blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and reverse automatic braking are not standard on the Convenience trim; you need to move up to Touring for those features. The lane-centring system also drew criticism for being overly intrusive and inconsistent in testing.

Should I buy a 2024 Subaru Ascent or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 22.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the 2023 refresh’s revised styling, updated technology, and new trim level, while continuing with almost no changes for 2024.

The bottom line: If you want a straightforward three-row Subaru with standard all-wheel drive, strong safety credentials, and a softer used-market price, the 2024 is the sensible choice. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare it with nearby model years to see whether a lightly used example offers a better value proposition.
