How much does the 2024 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 9.83% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 137 listings available, which suggests you have some room to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Generally — the 2024 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.17/5 user rating and a 4.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 6/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, power, and aesthetics, and they also highlight the improved ride quality along with useful features such as heated seats and blind spot monitoring. That lines up with the 4Runner’s use case as a practical utility vehicle with real trail credentials and plenty of cargo space.

The trade-offs are clear: it trails newer rivals in technology, safety features, fuel efficiency, and power, and it can feel loud and less polished in daily driving. Even so, if you want a rugged SUV with genuine off-road ability and a strong reputation for reliability and durability, it still fits that brief well.

With 24.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market offers a decent number of value opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.17/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in the ways that matter to used buyers: it is praised for being spacious, durable, and confidence-inspiring, with a reputation that supports long-term ownership. The expert assessment also reinforces that it has a strong reputation for reliability and durability.

That said, you should still weigh age-related ownership risk, because this model year sits on an older platform and asks you to accept dated technology and less refinement in exchange for its toughness.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Toyota 4Runner?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The range-topping TRD Pro adds underbody skid plates, all-terrain tires, and a beefy tubular roof rack, while the interior still shows its age with old-school styling and last-generation technology. The base setup is more basic, so you should check whether the features you want are present before you buy.
• Powertrain: Every 2024 4Runner uses a 4.0-litre V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. It is capable off-road, but it feels slow on pavement and can be noisy under load.
• Safety package: Toyota’s driver-assistance suite includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. The TRD Pro and 4Runner Limited trims also add a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: You get an eight-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but the screen is small and can be challenging to use while driving. The system also lacks some off-road-specific apps and gauges found in some rivals.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates it at 14.8 L/100 km in the city, 12.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 13.8 L/100 km combined. It is thirsty, so fuel costs should be part of your ownership budget.

Which 2024 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2024 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 2 trim levels: SR5 and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the trim to focus on if you want the most accessible path into the 4Runner lineup and you care more about the core SUV formula than extra hardware. It gives you the rugged body-on-frame character, cargo space, and trail-ready basics without paying for the more specialised equipment.
• TRD Pro: This is the one to choose if you want the most serious off-road setup, with underbody skid plates, all-terrain tires, a tubular roof rack, a 15-speaker JBL premium audio system, and the surround-view camera system. It is the best fit if you plan to use the 4Runner’s capability to the fullest.

The TRD Pro and 4Runner Limited trims also come with a surround-view camera system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings closely and move quickly on the right example.

• Deal availability: 24.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 137 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.83% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $55,640 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $57,543 CAD sits slightly below last year's $63,816 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment if the market stays soft. The year-round range suggests there is still meaningful spread between lower and higher-priced examples, so condition, trim, and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.17/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2024 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings for overall and frontal crash protection, five-star ratings in side impacts, and three-star ratings in rollover evaluations from NHTSA. The IIHS gives it a Good result for the original moderate frontal overlap crash test and side protection tests, but the newer small overlap frontal test carries incomplete results with some Marginal and Poor findings.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota’s driver-assistance suite includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. The TRD Pro and 4Runner Limited trims also add a surround-view camera system.

The main caution is that some of the safety tech can be oversensitive, and the mixed crash-test results are a reminder that this is an older design in a segment where newer rivals do better.

Should I buy a 2024 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 24.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.17/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It remains a rugged, off-road-capable SUV with strong reliability and durability.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $54,841 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $57,543 CAD average.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $71,770 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $57,543 CAD average.
• It brings a full redesign with more capability, power, comfort, and technology.

The bottom line: If you want the current model-year 4Runner formula and can find a well-priced example, the 2024 is the safer buy than paying up for the redesigned 2025. If your priority is lower upfront cost, the 2023 is the better value play, while shoppers who want a more modern 4Runner should look ahead to the 2025.
