Is the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid a good car?

Generally — the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid earns 4.4/5 from owners and 7.0/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its comfortable ride, roomy cabin, and strong safety focus. Many also like the tech features and the value it offers compared with the gas-only version. On the downside, some owners point to pricing pressure and a less stylish interior.

It fits well if you want a practical compact crossover with lots of passenger and cargo space, plus hybrid power on the higher trims. The trade-offs are that it is not especially exciting to drive and its fuel economy does not fully deliver on hybrid expectations.

With 34.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is a meaningful share of attractive inventory to consider.

Is the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid reliable?

User feedback points to a dependable, comfortable SUV that many drivers feel good about living with over time. The review summary also highlights strong ride quality and the sense that it is a vehicle you can count on for everyday use.

From our test drive, the hybrid system works transparently and the SUV feels easy to drive, which supports confidence in day-to-day ownership. Honda also includes a standard walk-away automatic locking feature, which adds a bit of convenience and peace of mind.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that the hybrid’s fuel savings may not be as strong as you expect, especially if you drive in conditions similar to our test loop.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The EX-L Hybrid brings the more affordable entry point to the hybrid lineup, while the Touring Hybrid adds a more upscale cabin with leather seats, orange contrast stitching, and a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system. The base presentation is relatively basic, so you should decide whether the extra comfort and tech in the higher trim are worth it.
• Powertrain: The hybrid uses a fourth-generation Honda two-motor system with an Atkinson-cycle 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and two electric motors, delivering 204 horsepower to all four wheels. It is smooth and transparent in normal driving, though you may notice low-speed electric warning noise and some engine droning on hills.
• Safety package: Every CR-V Hybrid gets Honda Sensing, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, a rear seat reminder, automatic high beams, and a driver monitoring system. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the Hybrid trims, and front and rear parking sensors are included as well. Low-speed automatic braking control is part of the Touring trim.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging. Touring trim adds navigation and the Bose audio system. The voice recognition system is basic, so conversational commands are not a strong point.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates 6.4 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving. In testing, the vehicle returned 8.7 L/100 km, which is a reminder to verify whether the hybrid’s real-world efficiency fits your driving pattern.

Which 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid trim should I buy?

The 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid is offered in 2 trim levels: EX-L Hybrid and Touring Hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• EX-L Hybrid: This is the best-value choice if you want the hybrid powertrain at the lower entry price. It gives you the core CR-V Hybrid experience, including standard all-wheel drive, the 9-inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and the full Honda Sensing suite.
• Touring Hybrid: Choose this if you want the most complete version of the CR-V Hybrid. It adds navigation, the 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, leather seats, and low-speed automatic braking control, making it the better pick if you value a more premium cabin and extra convenience features.

Honda Sensing is standard across the hybrid lineup, while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors are also included on the Hybrid trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 581 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.66% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $39,581 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $39,594 CAD sits slightly below last year's $43,825 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you pay close to the current average, your resale upside may be more limited unless demand stays strong.

The good news is that the CR-V Hybrid has broad appeal thanks to its comfort, practicality, and safety reputation. Those traits usually help support used demand when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid safe?

The 2024 CR-V Hybrid earns a Top Safety Pick award from IIHS, though it does not reach Top Safety Pick+ because of its poor result in the updated moderate overlap front test.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, a rear seat reminder, automatic high beams, and a driver monitoring system. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the Hybrid trims, and front and rear parking sensors are included as well.

The main caveat is that the CR-V does not achieve the IIHS result needed for the top award in 2024, so safety shoppers should note that shortcoming even though the overall package remains strong.

Should I buy a 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.66% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The EX-L Hybrid debuts in Canada this year, giving you a lower-priced entry into the hybrid lineup.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $37,751 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $39,594 CAD average.
• It introduced the CR-V Hybrid to Canada for the first time and focuses on practicality and efficiency.

The bottom line: If you want the broader trim choice and the lower-priced hybrid entry point, the 2024 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2023 remains a sensible alternative, especially if you find a clean example with the equipment you want.
