How much does the 2023 Volvo XC90 cost?

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated SUV with an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

The XC90’s appeal starts with its understated, elegant design and beautiful interior, and it backs that up with impressive technology. It is aimed at buyers who want a luxury three-row crossover that feels sophisticated rather than flashy.

The trade-offs are real: cargo space is limited, the third row is difficult to access, and the technology can be too touchscreen-dependent.

With 38.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC90 is presented as a well-regarded, safety-focused luxury SUV with a refined cabin and a modern mild-hybrid powertrain for 2023. Its powertrain update keeps it current, and the driving experience is described as smooth, quiet, and confident.

The mild-hybrid setup is described as helping with smoother operation, and the fuel-saving auto stop-start system is almost imperceptible. Volvo also positions the XC90 as part of its broader move toward electrification.

If you plan to keep one used, the main long-term ownership risk is that its touchscreen-heavy controls may take time to live with comfortably.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volvo XC90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Core, Plus, and Ultimate trims differ mainly in equipment and price, with the higher trims adding more luxury content. The base trim still includes standard all-wheel drive, heated front seats, keyless entry, and the core safety tech, so you should check whether you need the extra comfort and convenience features of the higher trims.
• Powertrain: For 2023, the XC90 uses B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains in Canada, replacing the older T5 and T6 engines. The setup is tuned for smoother operation and modest efficiency gains rather than full-hybrid driving.
• Safety package: Pilot Assist is standard, along with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. These features are standard equipment, so trim choice is less about getting the safety suite and more about the rest of the vehicle.
• Infotainment: The XC90 uses a 9-inch vertically oriented touchscreen with Google OS, Google Maps, Google Assistant, Bluetooth, and Apple CarPlay support. It does not lean heavily on physical controls, so make sure you’re comfortable with the screen-based interface.
• Fuel efficiency: The mild-hybrid system is described as offering only minimal fuel-economy gains, with benefits amounting to just a few litres at most.

Which 2023 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the value play if you want the XC90’s standard luxury feel, standard AWD, heated front seats, keyless entry, and the full safety suite without paying for extras you may not need.
• Plus: This is the trim to target if you want a better-equipped XC90 without jumping all the way to the top price. It adds more equipment and is the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• Ultimate: Choose this if you want the most upscale version and are willing to pay for the highest trim’s added luxury content.

Pilot Assist and the rest of the standard safety package are included across the range.

Should I buy a 2023 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 38.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 update brings B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains and Google-based infotainment.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,150 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $49,465 CAD average.
• It offers an elegant, tech-forward cabin with strong safety appeal.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $55,804 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $49,465 CAD average.
• It carries over with timeless styling and a refined, comfortable luxury feel.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the best all-around pick if you want the updated powertrain and current tech at a softer price than the 2024. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the smarter value play, while the 2024 makes sense only if you want the newer model-year pricing and can justify the premium.
