Used 2021 Volvo XC90 for Sale near Thornhill, ON

How much does the 2021 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 15.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 95 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2021 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — 5/5 from owners and 7.7/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

The XC90 suits you if you want a polished midsize luxury SUV with a strong safety identity, a refined cabin, and a family-friendly three-row layout. It is no longer the newest option in the class, but it still stands out for its upscale design, quiet road manners, and safety-first approach.

The market also shows 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC90’s reliability case is helped by its established platform, its straightforward four-cylinder powertrains, and Volvo’s emphasis on safety and durability. The expert assessment also points to a well-sorted driving experience and a cabin that feels thoughtfully put together rather than overcomplicated.

Volvo’s four-year, 80,000-kilometre basic and powertrain warranties also help reduce early ownership risk. For used buyers, the main long-term concern is that luxury-SUV upkeep can still be costly once warranty coverage ends.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volvo XC90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Momentum is the base model and does not get the extra visual polish of the higher trims, while R-Design adds a sportier look and Inscription brings the flashiest presentation. If you want the best value, the midlevel R-Design is the trim to focus on.
• Powertrain: You can choose from T5 and T6 gasoline engines or the T8 plug-in hybrid. The T5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder, the T6 adds supercharging, and the T8 combines the engine with electric assist for the highest output.
• Safety package: The XC90 includes lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. The plug-in hybrid is not covered by the IIHS rating update mentioned for the non-hybrid models.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, and Bluetooth. Wireless charging is included, but the pad may not fit most phones well.
• Fuel efficiency: The T5 AWD is rated at 10.1 L/100 km combined, the T6 AWD at 10.5 L/100 km combined, and the T8 Recharge can use as little as 8.8 L/100 km combined in hybrid mode, with an efficiency rating of 4.0 Le/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the entry point, and it gives you the XC90’s core safety-first character without the extra visual upgrades of the higher trims. It makes sense if you want the XC90 experience at the lowest starting point.
• R-Design: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a sportier appearance and sits in the sweet spot between price and equipment.
• Inscription: This is the most upscale choice, with the flashiest presentation and the most premium feel for buyers who want the XC90 to feel fully luxurious.

The non-hybrid XC90 models earned top IIHS crash-test scores, while the plug-in hybrid was not included in that rating update.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volvo XC90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to be picky.

• Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 95 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.75% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,866 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $34,606 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,073 CAD.

That price movement suggests the XC90 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be good news if you are buying now. For a future seller, it means the market is currently valuing this model more conservatively than it did a year ago.

If demand stays steady, that softer entry point can help support resale appeal later because buyers often respond well to a luxury SUV that already looks reasonably priced. The XC90’s safety reputation and premium positioning should also help it remain attractive in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2021 XC90 received the highest “Top Safety Pick+” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns five-star ratings in frontal, side, and rollover tests from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The XC90 comes with a long list of standard driver-assistance features, including lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

One caveat is that the IIHS rating applies to non-hybrid models only, since the XC90 T8 plug-in hybrid was not updated in that testing cycle. The non-hybrid models also received top “Good” scores in all IIHS crash tests, with “Superior” front-crash prevention in vehicle-to-vehicle testing and “Advanced” in vehicle-to-pedestrian testing.

Should I buy a 2021 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds newly standard tech features and keeps Volvo’s safety-first focus front and centre.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,150 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $34,606 CAD average.
• It adds an available plug-in hybrid variant with fuel economy ratings as low as 3.4 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it delivers the XC90’s core strengths at a lower average price. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model-year update and electrified efficiency, the 2022 is the better secondary path.
