How much does the 2023 Volvo XC90 cost?

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — you get a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal and strong overall execution.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

The XC90 suits you if you want a sophisticated luxury three-row crossover with a polished, understated design, a beautiful interior, and impressive technology. The trade-offs are limited cargo space and third-row seats that are difficult to access, plus a touchscreen-heavy interface that can feel less intuitive than you might want.

With 36.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC90’s reputation is reinforced by its strong safety focus and its well-regarded, refined ownership experience. Its mild-hybrid powertrain is designed to improve smoothness and efficiency, while the auto stop-start system is described as almost imperceptible. The cabin also benefits from a calm, insulated feel that supports everyday usability.

If you plan to keep the vehicle for the long haul, the main ownership risk is that its touchscreen-dependent controls may become a daily annoyance rather than a deal-breaker.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volvo XC90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Core trim starts the range, while Plus and Ultimate add more equipment and can be configured with six-passenger seating for an extra cost. The base setup already includes heated front seats, but the higher trims are where you’ll find the richer feature mix and the most upscale presentation.
• Powertrain: For 2023, the XC90 uses B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains in place of the older T5 and T6 engines. The setup is tuned for smoother operation and modest efficiency gains rather than dramatic fuel savings.
• Safety package: Pilot Assist is standard, along with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. These features are standard equipment, so you should verify they are functioning properly on any used example.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch vertical touchscreen with Google OS, Bluetooth, Google Maps, Google Assistant, Apple CarPlay compatibility, and a 12.3-inch driver information display. The system is advanced, but many functions are buried in the screen.
• Fuel efficiency: The mild-hybrid setup is intended to improve efficiency, but the gains are described as modest rather than dramatic.

Which 2023 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point, and it gives you the XC90’s core luxury feel, standard all-wheel drive, heated front seats, and the standard safety and infotainment package. It makes sense if you want the XC90 experience without paying for extras you may not need.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim if you want a more complete luxury experience. It adds equipment over Core and can be configured with six-passenger seating, which may suit you better if you want easier access to the second row.
• Ultimate: This is the most richly equipped version and the one that best showcases the XC90’s upscale interior and technology. Choose it if you want the most premium presentation and are willing to pay for it.

Pilot Assist and the rest of the standard safety suite are included across the range.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volvo XC90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some confidence if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 203 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.63% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $49,746 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $50,203 CAD sits slightly below last year's $53,197 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the XC90 is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that means you may need to price competitively if you want to stand out in a market where shoppers have more leverage.

The good news is that the model’s strong reputation, upscale image, and broad appeal should help support demand over time. If you maintain the vehicle well and keep it in a desirable trim, you should be in a better position when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2023 Volvo XC90 earns a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and was named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard, along with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and Volvo’s Pilot Assist system. Pilot Assist helps maintain distance to the vehicle ahead from a standstill up to highway speed, and the lane-keeping system can gently nudge you back into position if you drift.

The main safety caveat is that some of the XC90’s driver-assistance behaviour depends on how well you adapt to its touchscreen-heavy interface and overall control layout.

Should I buy a 2023 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.63% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 brings the B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains and Google OS infotainment.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $41,400 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $50,203 CAD average.
• It offers an elegant three-row SUV feel with a quiet cabin and strong safety ratings.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $55,977 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $50,203 CAD average.
• It remains beautifully styled inside and out, with a range of powertrains including a plug-in hybrid variant.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, modern tech, and strong overall appeal, the 2023 is the smart default. If your priority is lower purchase cost, the 2022 is the better value play. If you want the newer-year asking price and are comfortable paying more, the 2024 keeps the same core strengths.
