Used 2021 Volvo XC90 for Sale near New Brunswick

How much does the 2021 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 14.19% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 97 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2021 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

The XC90 is positioned as Volvo’s de facto flagship, and it leans into that role with a polished, safety-focused character in the midsize luxury SUV segment. It is a strong fit if you want a three-row luxury SUV that prioritises safety, refined road manners, and a restrained Scandinavian design rather than flashy gimmicks.

The market also shows 36.1% good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC90’s dependability story is built around Volvo’s safety-first engineering and its established current-generation platform. The expert assessment also points to a cabin and driving experience that feel refined rather than overcomplicated, which can be a plus for long-term ownership. The powertrains are centred on a 2.0-litre four-cylinder layout with an eight-speed automatic, and the plug-in hybrid adds electric assist rather than a more complex multi-engine setup.

Volvo also includes a four-year, 80,000-kilometre basic warranty and a four-year, 80,000-kilometre powertrain warranty, which helps reduce early ownership risk for used buyers.

For used shoppers, the main long-term risk is that luxury-SUV upkeep can still be costly, especially if you choose a higher-spec model with more equipment.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volvo XC90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Momentum is the least dressed-up version and does not get the extra visual flair of the R-Design or Inscription. The R-Design adds a sportier look with a gloss-black grille surround, while the Inscription is the flashiest trim with extra chrome and available 21-inch alloy wheels.
• Powertrain: All versions use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic. The T5 is turbocharged, the T6 adds turbocharging and supercharging, and the T8 plug-in hybrid adds electric assist and rear-axle electric drive for the highest output.
• Safety package: The XC90 includes lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. The non-hybrid models are the ones that received the highest IIHS recognition.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, Bluetooth, two front USB-A ports, and two rear USB-C ports. A 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system and head-up display are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The T5 AWD is rated at 10.1 L/100 km combined, the T6 AWD at 10.5 L/100 km combined, and the T8 Recharge at as little as 8.8 L/100 km combined in hybrid mode, with an efficiency rating of 4.0 Le/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the value-focused choice if you want the XC90 experience without paying for the dressier trim details. It gives you the core safety-first luxury-SUV formula, and it makes the most sense if you care more about the XC90’s fundamentals than its flash.
• R-Design: Choose this if you want a sportier appearance, including the gloss-black grille surround and standard 20-inch wheels. It suits you if you want the XC90 to look a little more aggressive without moving up to the top trim.
• Inscription: This is the most upscale-looking trim, with extra chrome and available 21-inch wheels. It is the best fit if you want the most premium presentation and are willing to pay for it.

The non-hybrid XC90 models are the ones that received the highest IIHS recognition, while the T8 plug-in hybrid was not updated in those ratings.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volvo XC90?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards patience and comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 97 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.19% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,488 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $35,653 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,548 CAD.

That decline suggests the XC90 has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer pricing environment than owners saw a year ago. If you buy now, you may benefit from the lower entry point, but resale gains are likely to depend on condition, mileage, and equipment level more than on market momentum alone.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2021 XC90 received the highest “Top Safety Pick+” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in frontal and side crash tests, with four-star ratings in rollover testing.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The XC90 comes with a long list of standard driver-assistance features, including lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. The non-hybrid models also earned top “Good” scores in all IIHS crash tests, plus a top “Superior” rating for front-crash prevention in vehicle-to-vehicle testing.

One caveat is that the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating applies to non-hybrid models only, so the plug-in hybrid is not covered by that specific result.

Should I buy a 2021 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds newly standard tech features and a 180-kilometre-per-hour limit for safety.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $41,379 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $35,653 CAD average.
• It adds an available plug-in hybrid with fuel economy as low as 3.4 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want the strongest value and a well-equipped safety-first luxury SUV at a lower price. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year and want the extra efficiency focus, the 2022 is worth a look.
