Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 a good car?

The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

It builds on a well-regarded formula with updated styling, materials, feature offerings, and mechanical tweaks aimed at improving ride comfort and handling. It remains a three-row midsize SUV with a premium feel and a strong safety image, which makes it a compelling fit if you want a refined family hauler rather than something overtly sporty. The trade-offs are that semi-autonomous driving is not available, and the top-tier sound system still costs extra even on the top trim.

Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 reliable?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is presented as a polished, well-sorted SUV with smooth standard driver-assistance operation and mechanical updates aimed at improving ride comfort and stability. Its standard suspension uses Frequency Selective Damping technology, and the available air suspension is described as even more comfortable and disciplined. The B6 mild hybrid is the more user-friendly, hassle-free option because you do not need to manage charging to avoid fuel-economy consequences.

The plug-in hybrid version needs to be plugged in regularly to keep the battery charged and delivering its fuel-saving benefit. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is lower if you choose the simpler mild-hybrid setup, while the PHEV asks more of you in day-to-day use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Volvo XC90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Core version is the entry point, while Plus and Ultra packages add equipment and refinement. The base setup is more restrained, while the Ultra package brings the most premium cabin materials and features.
• Powertrain: You can choose between the B6 mild hybrid and the T8 plug-in hybrid. The B6 is the easier ownership choice, while the T8 adds electric driving capability and much more power, but it needs regular charging to make sense.
• Safety package: Standard advanced driver-assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, blind-spot information system, intersection auto brake, and large animal detection. Semi-autonomous highway driving is not available.
• Infotainment: The touchscreen is larger, sharper, and uses a new user interface with a fixed menu bar and contextual bar. Apple CarPlay is standard and works wirelessly or via USB-C cable, and the Ultra package adds a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The plug-in hybrid offers a Natural Resources Canada-rated low of 3.8 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres when charged and used properly.

Which 2025 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultra.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the XC90’s core strengths without stretching into pricier packages. It gives you the standard safety and technology foundation, and it is the trim to consider if you care most about getting into the model at the lowest price.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful equipment without pushing all the way to the top. If you want a more upscale feel and better audio options without paying for every luxury extra, this is the sweet spot.
• Ultra: Choose this if you want the most premium XC90 experience, including the richest cabin presentation and the most available tech. It suits you best if you plan to keep the SUV for a while and want the most complete version from the start.

The standard safety package is strong across the range, but the semi-autonomous highway-driving system is not available.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Volvo XC90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 197 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.15% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $70,058 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $70,058 CAD sits slightly below last year's $82,563 CAD.

That price movement suggests the XC90 has become more approachable for used buyers than it was a year ago. If you buy now, you may be entering at a softer point in the market, which can help reduce your upfront cost. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim, since the market has already moved down from last year’s level.

Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), that non-profit’s highest honour.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard advanced driver-assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, blind-spot information system, intersection auto brake, and large animal detection. Those systems are described as working smoothly and without erroneous interference during testing. The main caveat is that it does not offer a hands-free highway-driving system, even though some rival midsize SUVs do.

Should I buy a 2025 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.15% compared with last year.
• The refreshed styling, materials, and feature updates make this year feel more current.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $55,919 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $70,058 CAD average.
• It is described as timelessly beautiful and still appealing inside and out.

The bottom line: Choose the 2025 if you want the more updated XC90 with stronger market availability and a softer price trend. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2024 remains the better value play, especially if you are comfortable giving up the newer refresh.
