How much does the 2023 Toyota RAV4 cost?

Prices have softened 3.01% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Toyota RAV4 earns a 4.62/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable ride, good fuel economy, spacious interior, reliable performance, and value for money. In use, that lines up well with the RAV4’s role as a practical, family-friendly compact crossover rather than a sporty one.

The trade-offs are clear too: performance is fairly pedestrian, and some drivers find it underpowered compared with rivals. Even so, the RAV4’s well-rounded nature makes sense if you want a dependable everyday SUV with broad appeal.

With 28.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a reliable, dependable SUV that many shoppers feel good about keeping for the long haul. It is also described as a vehicle people can count on, with value and everyday usability coming through strongly in the reviews.

From the expert side, the RAV4 is presented as a solid, dependable family-friendly crossover with a reputation for trouble-free practicality. Toyota’s three-year/30,000-kilometre basic warranty and five-year/100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty also support the ownership case.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the vehicle’s modest performance and space will still suit your needs over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota RAV4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE is the entry point, while the Limited adds the most premium equipment, including ventilated front seats, more adjustability, and a more upscale cabin feel. The Trail sits in the middle and adds a more rugged look, but it is more style than substance.
• Powertrain: You get a single gas-only setup for 2023: a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard across the lineup.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard, with Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam LED headlights, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: An 8.0-inch touchscreen is standard, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and the system supports over-the-air updates. The Limited gets a 10.5-inch screen, while the Trail does not get the upgraded multimedia system.
• Fuel efficiency: The LE AWD is rated at 7.9 L/100 km combined, the XLE AWD at 8.0 L/100 km combined, and the Trail and Limited AWD at 8.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, Trail, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you standard AWD, heated front seats, and the core safety and infotainment features. If you want the lowest-cost path into the lineup, this is the one to start with.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a heated steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control while staying well below the Limited’s price and equipment jump.
• Trail: Choose this if you want the more rugged-looking middle trim with blacked-out styling, orange interior accents, and the off-road-friendly appearance package. It is more about character than capability.
• Limited: This is the most premium choice, with the larger touchscreen, JBL audio, wireless charging, a 12.3-inch driver display, ventilated front seats, memory settings, and heated rear seats.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota RAV4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 841 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.01% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,522 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $34,794 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,873 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favourable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to be realistic if they want to move a used RAV4 quickly. The year-round range is fairly tight, which points to steady demand rather than dramatic swings.

For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it reduces the risk of steep depreciation in the near term. The RAV4’s broad appeal and practical reputation should continue to support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 safe?

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 earns a 2023 Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard, and it includes Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam LED headlights, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

The main caveat is that the Trail does not get the upgraded multimedia system, but the safety equipment itself is standard across the lineup. That makes the RAV4 a strong choice if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.01% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a refreshed infotainment system and standard wireless smartphone connectivity.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,010 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $34,794 CAD average.
• It offers a mature, versatile compact SUV with efficient powertrains and a roomy interior.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $36,968 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $34,794 CAD average.
• It broadens the appeal with gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid drivetrains across more trim choices.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of updated tech, strong safety, and a softer used-market price, the 2023 is the smart default. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play. If you want the widest drivetrain and trim selection, the 2024 is worth the extra spend.
