Used 2023 Subaru Outback for Sale nearBarrie, ON

How much does the 2023 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 13.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 429 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Subaru Outback a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Subaru Outback earns a 4.33/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

It stands out as a practical crossover with standard all-wheel drive, strong safety systems and ratings, and the kind of utility that suits buyers who want everyday usefulness with all-weather confidence. It also brings impressive off-road capability for a crossover, which helps it separate itself from more road-focused rivals.

The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and the potentially polarising design. The voice recognition system is also frustrating, so you may find the tech experience less polished than the rest of the package.

With 31.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2023 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Outback is presented as a vehicle that blends everyday usefulness, all-weather confidence, and strong safety systems, which supports its reputation for dependable ownership. Its standard AWD setup and rugged utility also point to a model built for regular use in varied Canadian conditions.

The boxer engine layout helps lower the centre of gravity, and the CVT is paired with Subaru’s standard AWD system and X-Mode traction system to support confident driving in changing conditions. Subaru also says the 2023 updates improve how the safety features operate, which adds to the sense of refinement.

The 2023 model’s strong value proposition and safety focus should help reduce long-term ownership risk for used buyers, especially if you prioritise practical durability over outright performance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Subaru Outback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim gets the 7-inch touchscreen, while higher trims add the 11.6-inch system, blacked-out exterior treatment on the Onyx Edition, and more upscale cabin materials. The base model also misses some convenience and safety equipment that appears on higher trims.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine makes 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque, but it can feel underpowered. The 2.4-litre turbocharged XT engine delivers 260 hp and 277 lb-ft and is the better choice if you want stronger passing and mountain-driving performance.
• Safety package: EyeSight includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centring assist. Blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change assist are equipped from Touring grade, and Automatic Emergency Steering is added with those features present.
• Infotainment: The base system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto. Starting with Touring trim, the 11.6-inch system adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Subaru also offers connected services, navigation, and a Harman Kardon premium audio system depending on trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is rated at 8.3 L/100 km combined, while the turbocharged XT models are rated at 9.5 L/100 km combined. The Wilderness trim is rated at 10.1 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2023 Subaru Outback is offered in 7 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Onyx Edition, Limited, Wilderness, Limited XT, and Premier XT.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the entry point if you want the Outback’s standard AWD, practical utility, and the 7-inch touchscreen without paying for extras you may not need.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim if you want the strongest mix of equipment and safety, since it adds the larger 11.6-inch screen and unlocks more driver-assistance features.
• Onyx Edition: Choose this if you want the blacked-out exterior treatment and water-resistant upholstery that give the Outback a more adventurous look and feel.
• Limited: This is the right pick if you want the more upscale cabin materials and a more premium overall feel without stepping into turbo pricing.
• Wilderness: Pick this if off-road capability matters most, since it is the most adventure-focused version in the lineup.
• Limited XT: This is the better choice if you want stronger acceleration and a more premium feel together.
• Premier XT: Choose this if you want the most upscale turbocharged version and the added camera-based pedestrian and cyclist detection support.

Blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change assist are equipped from Touring grade, so that trim is the key safety step up.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Subaru Outback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what you want.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 429 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.75% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $31,628 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $31,862 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,940 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests future sellers may face more competition if the market stays well supplied. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less room for appreciation later, but you could still benefit from the model’s broad appeal and strong utility.

Because the Outback is positioned as a practical, value-focused crossover with strong safety and all-weather capability, it should continue to attract used buyers. That helps support resale demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2023 Subaru Outback earns top marks across the board from IIHS, including in the more stringent side-impact crash test.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

In Base trim, EyeSight includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centring assist. Blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change assist are equipped from Touring grade, and Automatic Emergency Steering is added when those features are present.

Subaru also adds new EyeSight cameras and an electronic brake booster for 2023 to refine how the safety features operate and to support pedestrian, cyclist, and automatic steering functions. One caveat is that the rear automatic braking system can be incompatible with some driveways, so you may want to test that feature carefully on a used example.

Should I buy a 2023 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds fresh styling, new infotainment and safety technologies, and the Onyx Edition for Canada.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $29,177 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $31,862 CAD average.
• It starts the adventure-focused Wilderness direction with improved off-road ability.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $34,864 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $31,862 CAD average.
• It broadens the trim range and adds feature-enriched trim levels with trim-specific aesthetic tweaks.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, updates, and market availability, the 2023 is the strongest all-around choice. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is worth a look; if you want a broader trim spread and are willing to pay more, the 2024 is the better alternative.
