How much does the 2023 Mazda CX-50 cost?

Prices have softened 9.55% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 325 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice if you're comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mazda CX-50 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, quality interior, and good performance, especially with the turbo engine. They also like the spacious cargo area and the sleek infotainment system. On the downside, the expert review points to limited storage space and an unintuitive infotainment system, and it also notes that the value proposition can be challenging.

Given its active-lifestyle positioning, you should see it as a crossover for buyers who want more personality than a typical urban runabout. The market also shows 28.6% good and great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile listings if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free feel, with owners highlighting the vehicle’s good performance and quality interior over the long term. The expert review also describes the turbo powertrain as delivering reliable towing capability, which supports confidence in day-to-day use and heavier-duty tasks.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is more about choosing the right trim and condition than worrying about broad reliability red flags.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda CX-50?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim misses some of the more useful driver-assistance upgrades, while higher trims add features such as Traffic Jam Assist, front and rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder is the more affordable and fuel-efficient choice, while the turbocharged version adds stronger acceleration and higher towing capacity.
• Safety package: Mazda’s driver-assistance suite is standard across the lineup, with active blind-spot monitoring included; the most useful upgrades are reserved for trims above base.
• Infotainment: Every CX-50 gets a 10.25-inch Mazda Connect display with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and Mazda Connected Services, plus touchscreen control for phone projection.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is rated at 9.7 L/100 km in city driving, 7.9 L/100 km on the highway, and 8.9 L/100 km combined. The turbo engine is rated at 10.4 L/100 km city, 8.1 L/100 km highway, and 9.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 Mazda CX-50 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is offered in 4 trim levels: GS-L, GT, GT Turbo, Meridian Edition.

Here's the short version:

• GS-L: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core CX-50 experience with the standard 187-horsepower 2.5-litre engine and Mazda’s full-time all-wheel-drive setup. It makes sense if you want the styling and safety story without paying for the turbo upgrade.
• GT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it keeps the standard engine but adds the more appealing everyday balance of equipment and price. If you want the CX-50’s design, safety, and usability without stretching into pricier trims, this is the one to focus on.
• GT Turbo: Choose this if you want the stronger 2.5-litre turbocharged engine and the extra performance that comes with it. It suits you best if acceleration and towing matter more than keeping running costs down.
• Meridian Edition: This is the most adventure-focused version, with exclusive wheels, all-terrain tires, splash guards, and a roof-mounted load platform. It’s the trim to consider if you want the most rugged-looking CX-50 and plan to lean into its outdoorsy character.

Mazda’s safety package is broadly standard, but the most useful upgrades are concentrated above base trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda CX-50?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards patience and comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 325 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.55% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,293 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda CX-50's resale value?

The current average of $32,293 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,701 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already moved into a more buyer-friendly part of its depreciation curve. For a future seller, that means resale value may depend heavily on trim, condition, and how well the vehicle is equipped relative to similar listings. Well-kept examples with desirable features should still attract attention, but you should expect buyers to be price-sensitive.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 safe?

The Mazda CX-50 is a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda includes a generous standard driver-assistance package, with active blind-spot monitoring among the standard features. Higher trims add Traffic Jam Assist, front and rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system. The main caveat is that the CX-50 falls short of Top Safety Pick+ because of some headlight configurations, along with weaker results in night-time pedestrian collision avoidance and the updated side crash test.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda CX-50 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.55% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines stylish design, standard advanced safety features, and a more adventurous packaging approach.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $37,176 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $32,293 CAD average.
• It leans more rugged and outdoorsy while staying practical for daily driving.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2023 is the smarter buy because prices have softened and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for the newer model year’s rugged positioning, the 2024 is the alternative to compare.
