Is the 2025 Mazda CX-50 a good car?

Yes — the 2025 Mazda CX-50 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

It stands out as a compact SUV that blends style, driving enjoyment, and efficiency, and it gains an efficient hybrid powertrain for 2025. That gives you a more engaging character than many rivals, along with a more premium feel than its class might suggest.

The trade-offs are clear: it does not offer much cargo space, rear-seat space is limited, and the technology is described as outdated. If you want a refined, fun-to-drive compact SUV and can live with those compromises, it fits that brief well.

34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2025 Mazda CX-50 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2025 Mazda CX-50 is presented as a well-rounded compact SUV with a strong emphasis on driving enjoyment and efficiency. Its hybrid powertrain adds fuel economy to an already sporty package, and the expert assessment highlights a refined, near-luxury feel.

The powertrain is described as potent yet efficient, with quick throttle response and a transmission tuned to mimic a conventional automatic. That combination suggests a drivetrain that should feel polished in everyday use.

The hybrid’s fuel-saving advantage also helps reduce running costs, and that can make ownership feel easier to justify over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that its tighter cabin and cargo space may become more noticeable as your needs grow.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Mazda CX-50?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim comes with a basic eight-speaker audio system, while the GT trim adds a 12-speaker Bose premium system. The hybrid model also brings red leather upholstery, which gives the cabin a more distinctive look.
• Powertrain: The hybrid uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with three electric motors, 219 horsepower, 163 lb-ft of torque, and AWD. It is tuned for smooth, responsive everyday driving rather than serious off-road use.
• Safety package: All models include frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a driver attention monitor, and automatic high beams.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch horizontal infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and touchscreen functionality only for those phone integrations. Wireless charging is standard on CX-50 Hybrid models in Canada.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates the hybrid at 6.2 L/100 km combined, versus 8.9 L/100 km combined for the standard engine and 9.4 L/100 km combined for the turbo.

Which 2025 Mazda CX-50 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Mazda CX-50 is offered in 2 trim levels: GS-L and GT.

Here's the short version:

• GS-L: This is the better-value choice if you want the hybrid’s efficiency and the CX-50’s core strengths without stretching to the top trim. It gives you the sporty driving character, the premium-feeling cabin, and the standard safety and connectivity features that define the model.
• GT: Choose this if you want the most upscale version, especially for the standard 12-speaker Bose premium audio system. It suits you best if cabin ambience and extra equipment matter more than keeping the purchase price down.

All CX-50 models come with the same standard driver-assistance suite, so you are not giving up core safety equipment by staying with the lower trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Mazda CX-50?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop with some patience and be ready to move when you find a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 321 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.25% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $41,298 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Mazda CX-50's resale value?

The current average of $41,298 CAD sits slightly below last year's $46,014 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can be good news if you are buying now but less favourable if you plan to sell soon. A lower current average can also mean future resale values may stay under pressure unless demand strengthens.

For a future seller, the key is to buy at the right point in the cycle and avoid overpaying today. If you can secure a well-priced example now, you may reduce the impact of depreciation later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Mazda CX-50 safe?

The 2025 Mazda CX-50 earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA evaluations except rollover protection, where it received four stars, and the IIHS gives it a Top Safety Pick+ rating.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

All models come with frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a driver attention monitor, and automatic high beams. That gives you a broad standard safety package across the lineup.

The rollover result is the main caveat to keep in mind, even though the overall crash-test picture is strong. If safety is a top priority, the CX-50 still presents a solid case thanks to its standard driver-assistance coverage and strong IIHS recognition.

Should I buy a 2025 Mazda CX-50 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2025 adds an efficient hybrid powertrain to the CX-50’s sporty, premium-feeling formula.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $37,079 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $41,298 CAD average.
• It offers a rugged, upscale feel with standard all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: Choose the 2025 if you want the newer hybrid efficiency and can live with the CX-50’s tighter packaging. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2024 is the more budget-friendly path.
