Used 2023 Mazda CX-5 for Sale nearNanaimo, BC

How much does the 2023 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 8.19% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 750 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, performance, and features, along with the stylish interior and high-quality finishes. The user-friendly heads-up display also comes up as a favourite. In practical terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want a compact crossover that feels polished and well put together.

The trade-offs are just as clear: the back seat is cramped, cargo space is limited, and the infotainment interface is frustrating. Even so, the CX-5 still feels current despite its age, which helps it suit you if you value refinement and driving enjoyment over maximum space.

Good and great deals account for 28.5% of listings, which is a healthy share for shoppers who are comparing options.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with praise for comfort, performance, and features that support everyday confidence. The high-quality interior finish and the useful heads-up display also reinforce the sense that this is a well-sorted SUV you can count on over time.

The expert assessment also supports that impression by describing the CX-5 as refined, solid, and rewarding to drive, with a tight feel and responsive controls. Mazda’s premium-leaning build quality adds to the sense of durability.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about mechanical trust and more about living with the cramped rear seat, limited cargo room, and frustrating infotainment.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CX-5 lineup spans six versions, and the base GX is the one most likely to leave you wanting more because the higher trims add more of the upscale feel and equipment that define this SUV.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder makes 187 hp and pairs with a six-speed automatic and standard AWD. The available turbocharged 2.5-litre engine is much stronger, especially if you want more effortless passing power.
• Safety package: Mazda’s i-Activsense suite is standard, and the four most expensive versions add features such as the Active Driving Display, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning alerts. The 2.5 Turbo Signature also gets the surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Mazda Connected Services. The system is not wireless, and the interface is a known weak point, so spend time testing it before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is rated at 9.0 L/100 km in combined driving, while the turbocharged engine is rated at 9.8 L/100 km in combined driving.

Which 2023 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 6 trim levels: GX, GS, Kuro, GT, 2.5 Turbo Sport Design, and 2.5 Turbo Signature.

Here's the short version:

• GX: This is the entry point, but it is best only if you are focused on keeping the purchase price down and can live with the most basic version of the CX-5 experience.
• GS: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it gives you a more complete everyday package without pushing you into the pricier turbo models.
• Kuro: Choose this if you want a more distinctive look and a step up in presentation without going all the way to the top of the range.
• GT: This is the trim to target if you want a more premium-feeling CX-5 with more of the comfort and convenience that suit this SUV’s upscale character.
• 2.5 Turbo Sport Design: Pick this if you want the stronger turbo engine and a more performance-oriented feel without jumping straight to the most expensive version.
• 2.5 Turbo Signature: This is the most luxurious and best-equipped version, and it is the one to buy if you want the fullest safety and convenience package.

The safety package is strongest in the four most expensive versions, while the 2.5 Turbo Signature adds the most exclusive driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some confidence if you are patient and comparison-focused.

• Deal availability: 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 750 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.19% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,091 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $30,091 CAD sits slightly below last year's $32,776 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-5 has become a little more buyer-friendly in the used market, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract attention if they price carefully. It also means you should expect resale values to reflect the model’s age and the market’s current preference for newer inventory.

Even so, the CX-5’s strong reputation for style, safety, and driving enjoyment should help it remain appealing to used shoppers. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment are likely to hold demand better than plain, high-mileage ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, along with a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda bundles most of its i-Activsense driver-assistance technology as standard equipment, including smooth and accurate adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic collision notification through E911. The four most expensive versions add the Active Driving Display, while the 2.5 Turbo Signature gets the surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.

One caveat is that some of the most useful convenience and parking aids are reserved for the upper trims, so you will want to check carefully if you are considering a lower-spec example.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the same polished design, strong safety, and enjoyable driving character while adding only a Rhodium White premium paint option.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $27,851 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $30,091 CAD average.
• It feels more upscale thanks to premium-leaning design and engineering updates.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $32,483 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $30,091 CAD average.
• It adds further refinement, strong outward visibility, and a more polished everyday feel.

The bottom line: If you want the current-year CX-5 experience at a softer price, the 2023 is the sensible pick. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2022 is worth a close look; if you want the latest refinement and can pay more, the 2024 is the stronger alternative.
