Its available gas and diesel powertrains, plus the range of trims and configurations, give you flexibility, but used heavy-duty trucks can still carry higher ownership costs if they’ve been worked hard. That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should focus on condition, mileage, and trim desirability to protect value. Premium trims and well-kept examples should remain easier to move than rougher work trucks.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.67% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $61,784 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $66,871 CAD average.
• It balances serious capability with the features many buyers expect.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $78,466 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $66,871 CAD average.
• It adds a newly available top trim with a more premium focus.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the best fit if you want a strong mix of capability, upscale features, and a softer used-market price than the 2024. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value path; if you want the newest premium trim experience and can stretch your budget, the 2024 is the upgrade to consider.
