Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty a good car?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty earns an 8.5/10 expert rating, and Ford positions it as an exceptionally well-rounded heavy-duty pickup with a wide range of trims to suit different needs and budgets.

The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

It is especially appealing if you want a big truck that balances serious capability with modern convenience, since the overview highlights powerful engines, incredible towing capability, and easy-to-use technology. The trade-offs are that it gets expensive fast and its engines are thirsty, while the wide turning radius can make manoeuvring less convenient.

With 30.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to find value if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty reliable?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty is presented as a straightforward, modernised heavy-duty truck with a broad trim range and work-focused hardware that should suit buyers who want a durable, no-nonsense pickup.

Its powertrain is described as lively with the 10-speed automatic, and the diesel setup is said to deliver stump-pulling grunt while staying in the optimal powerband. Ford also gives you useful towing tools such as Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, Pro Trailer Backup Assist, and onboard scales, which support confidence in day-to-day use.

For long-term ownership, the main risk for used buyers is that heavy-duty capability often comes with higher operating costs, especially if you choose one of the thirstier engines or a more complex, highly equipped trim.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is a work truck but still includes 17-inch wheels, vinyl upholstery, a four-speaker sound system, a USB port, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The XLT adds cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, SiriusXM satellite radio functionality, two wall-style power outlets, and an integrated trailer brake controller. The Lariat brings leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, wireless device charging, dual-zone automatic climate control, a fully digital instrument cluster, remote start, a heated steering wheel, and a larger 12-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited add progressively more luxury equipment, with Limited getting nearly every package and option found on the other trims.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 6.8-litre gas V8 with 400 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque, a 7.3-litre V8 with 430 horsepower and 485 lb-ft of torque, a 6.7-litre PowerStroke turbodiesel V8 with 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque, and a high-output PowerStroke turbodiesel with 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard on the base XL trim, while other trims get standard four-wheel drive, and all use a 10-speed automatic transmission.
• Safety package: Ford CoPilot 360 starts at the XLT trim and can include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree parking camera system. Some features depend on trim, so base-trim shoppers should check carefully.
• Infotainment: The base system uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims can get a 12-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, plus a logical control layout and redundant dials for radio and climate functions.
• Fuel efficiency: One source cited in the review suggests around 21 L/100 km for the 6.8-litre gas engine, around 19 to 21 L/100 km for the 7.3-litre gas engine, and around 14 to 18 L/100 km for the 6.7-litre diesel engine. In the review’s own combined driving, the high-output diesel returned 13.1 L/100 km.

Which 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most affordable way into the lineup, and it still gives you the essentials you need for work, including the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a basic but functional cabin. It makes sense if you want the truck’s core capability without paying for comfort features you may not use.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, SiriusXM, extra power outlets, and an integrated trailer brake controller while staying focused on utility. If you want a smarter balance of equipment and price, this is the trim to target.
• Lariat: This is the point where the truck starts to feel properly modern and upscale, with leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, a digital instrument cluster, remote start, a heated steering wheel, and the larger 12-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone integration. It suits you if you want a heavy-duty truck that feels genuinely comfortable every day.
• King Ranch: This trim leans into luxury with distinctive styling, two-tone brown leather, an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, auxiliary switches for aftermarket gear, and useful towing and bed equipment on the test vehicle. It is a strong pick if you want a premium truck with a more distinctive personality.
• Platinum: This trim offers similar comfort to King Ranch but with more cosmopolitan styling, plus LED fog lights, power-deploying running boards, a powered and remotely operated tailgate, and power-adjustable pedals. It suits buyers who want luxury with a cleaner, more polished look.
• Limited: This is the top-end choice, bundling nearly every package and option, including max-recline seats, a massive dual-panel sunroof, and unique interior and exterior styling. Choose it if you want the most lavish version of the F-250 Super Duty.

Starting at the XLT trim, Ford CoPilot 360 is included, but the exact feature set depends on how much you spend.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some confidence if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 163 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.77% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $63,998 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty's resale value?

The current average of $64,160 CAD sits slightly below last year's $79,968 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can be helpful if you are buying now but less favourable if you are planning to sell soon. If you own one, you may need to price it competitively to stand out against the current supply. For future sellers, the upside is that well-equipped trucks with desirable powertrains and trims should still attract attention, especially if they are priced near the lower end of the current range.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford CoPilot 360 starts at the XLT trim and can include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree parking camera system. Ford also offers trailer blind-spot monitoring and an industry-first backup camera for when the tailgate is lowered.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.77% compared with last year.
• The 2023 model year appeals to you because it is described as an exceptionally well-rounded heavy-duty pickup with thoughtful tech and powertrain updates.

The bottom line: If you want a well-rounded heavy-duty truck with strong capability, modern tech, and a broad trim range, the 2023 is the one to focus on. If you are more price-sensitive, you can still find value in lower trims, especially if you are willing to trade some luxury features for a better entry price.
