Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty a good car?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty earns an 8.5/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

It is described as exceptionally well-rounded for the heavy-duty pickup class, with broad trim coverage that helps you match the truck to your needs and budget. You also get powerful engines, strong towing capability, and easy-to-use technology.

The trade-offs are that it gets expensive fast and its engines are thirsty, and its wide turning radius can make manoeuvring less convenient.

With 24.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty reliable?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty is presented as a modernised heavy-duty truck that keeps the straightforward character buyers expect while adding useful tech and powertrain updates. Its 10-speed automatic transmission is described as managing power beautifully, and the diesel setup is said to deliver stump-pulling grunt with strong highway performance.

Ford’s heavy-duty lineup also includes practical ownership-friendly features such as Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, Pro Trailer Backup Assist, onboard scales, and Trailer Navigation, all of which can make day-to-day use and towing less stressful.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is still a large, complex, and expensive truck to run, especially if you choose one of the higher-output powertrains or more heavily equipped trims.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is a work truck but still includes an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The XLT adds cloth upholstery, heated front seats, and an integrated trailer brake controller. The Lariat brings leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless device charging, and a 12-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. The King Ranch adds luxury-truck styling, premium leather, an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, auxiliary switches, and towing-related equipment. The Platinum adds similar comfort with more cosmopolitan styling, while the Limited includes nearly every package and option found on the other trims.
• Powertrain: The truck offers a 6.8-litre gas V8, a 7.3-litre V8, a 6.7-litre PowerStroke turbodiesel V8, and a high-output PowerStroke turbodiesel. Power is routed through a 10-speed automatic transmission, with rear-wheel drive on the base XL and standard four-wheel drive on other trims.
• Safety package: Ford CoPilot 360 is standard starting at the XLT trim. Depending on trim, it can include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree parking camera system.
• Infotainment: The base truck gets an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims can get a 12-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.

Which 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most affordable way into the lineup, and it still gives you the essentials you need, including the 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and smartphone integration. It makes sense if you want a true work truck and do not need luxury features.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated front seats, cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, SiriusXM, wall-style power outlets, and an integrated trailer brake controller without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Lariat: This is the sweet spot if you want a more modern cabin, with leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and the larger 12-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity.
• King Ranch: This is the right pick if you want a luxury-truck feel, with distinctive styling, premium interior materials, an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, and useful towing and bed equipment.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want similar comfort to the King Ranch but prefer a more upscale, cosmopolitan look.
• Limited: This is the top-end choice if you want nearly everything Ford offers in this truck, including max-recline seats and a dual-panel sunroof.

Starting at the XLT trim, Ford CoPilot 360 is included, but the exact feature set depends on how much you spend.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 157 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 22.44% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $62,375 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty's resale value?

The current average of $62,417 CAD sits slightly below last year's $80,477 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has moved in your favour if you are buying now, but it also means a future seller may face more price pressure than owners did a year ago. If you plan to resell later, the truck’s value will likely depend heavily on trim, engine choice, and how well it has been equipped and maintained. Higher-spec trucks may still hold appeal, but the broader trend points to softer resale conditions than before.

Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford CoPilot 360 is the standard driver-assistance suite starting at the XLT trim, and depending on trim it can include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree parking camera system.

The safety story is helped by useful towing and visibility tools such as trailer mirrors, trailer blind-spot monitoring, and the tailgate-down backup camera. For a truck this large, those features matter a lot in tight spaces and when towing.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 22.44% compared with last year.
• It is the year that brings a modest restyle plus thoughtful tech and powertrain updates, while keeping the truck’s straightforward character and broad trim range.

The bottom line: If you want a heavy-duty truck that feels current and gives you lots of trim flexibility, the 2023 is the one to target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby model year may be worth a look, but the 2023’s softer pricing makes it a strong place to start.
