Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty a good car?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty earns an 8.5/10 expert rating, and Ford positions it as an exceptionally well-rounded heavy-duty pickup with a broad trim range that helps you match the truck to both your needs and your budget.

The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

It brings powerful engines, incredible towing capability, and easy-to-use technology, while the updated design keeps it feeling current without losing the straightforward character you expect from a big truck. The trade-offs are that it gets expensive fast and its engines are thirsty, and the wide turning radius can make manoeuvring less convenient.

With 27.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty reliable?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty is presented as a modernised heavy-duty truck that keeps its work-first character while adding useful tech and powertrain updates, which supports confidence if you want a current-feeling used truck.

Its 10-speed automatic transmission is described as managing power beautifully, and the diesel powertrain is portrayed as lively from a standstill and strong at highway speeds. Ford also frames the truck as a solid value because even lower trims deliver a lot of truck for the money.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is still a large, complex, heavy-duty truck, so upkeep and operating costs can be substantial over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is a work truck but still includes 17-inch wheels, vinyl upholstery, a four-speaker sound system, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The XLT adds cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, SiriusXM, two wall-style power outlets, and an integrated trailer brake controller. Higher trims add more comfort and luxury, with the Lariat bringing leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, wireless device charging, dual-zone automatic climate control, a fully digital instrument cluster, remote start, and a heated steering wheel.

• Powertrain: You get a 6.8-litre gas V8, a 7.3-litre V8, a 6.7-litre PowerStroke turbodiesel V8, and a high-output PowerStroke turbodiesel. The 10-speed automatic is standard, rear-wheel drive is standard on the XL, and four-wheel drive is standard on other trims.

• Safety package: Ford CoPilot 360 starts at the XLT trim and can include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree parking camera system. Some features depend on trim, so make sure the truck you are considering has the driver-assistance equipment you want.

• Infotainment: The base setup is an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims can get a 12-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, plus a logical control layout and redundant dials for radio and climate functions.

• Fuel efficiency: In combined city and highway driving, the high-output diesel returned 13.1 L/100 km. Fuelly data cited in the review puts the 6.8-litre gas engine at around 21 L/100 km, the 7.3-litre gas engine at around 19 to 21 L/100 km, and the 6.7-litre diesel at 14 to 18 L/100 km.

Which 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most affordable way into the lineup, and it still gives you the essentials you need for work, including the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a basic but usable cabin. It makes sense if you want the truck’s core capability without paying for extras you may not use.

• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many buyers because it adds meaningful comfort and convenience upgrades, including heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, SiriusXM, extra power outlets, and an integrated trailer brake controller. It is the trim that most clearly balances price and everyday usability.

• Lariat: This is the point where the truck starts feeling properly upscale, with leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, wireless device charging, dual-zone automatic climate control, a digital instrument cluster, remote start, and the larger 12-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone integration. Choose it if you want a more premium daily driver.

• King Ranch: This trim leans into luxury-truck character with distinctive styling, two-tone brown leather, perforated seats, an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, auxiliary switches, and available work-friendly equipment such as a spray-in bed liner, LED in-bed lighting, surround lighting, fifth-wheel towing prep, and Pro Power Onboard. It suits you if you want a high-end truck with strong towing and utility appeal.

• Platinum: This trim offers similar comfort to the King Ranch but with a more cosmopolitan look, plus features such as LED fog lights, power-deploying running boards, a powered and remotely operated tailgate, and power-adjustable pedals. It is a good fit if you want luxury with a cleaner, more understated style.

• Limited: This is the range-topper and includes nearly every package and option found on the other trims, along with max-recline seats, a massive dual-panel sunroof, and unique interior and exterior styling. It is for you if you want the most fully equipped version available.

Starting at the XLT trim, Ford CoPilot 360 brings the core safety and driver-assistance features, so that is the trim level where safety equipment becomes much more substantial.

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 147 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 21.41% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $62,525 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty's resale value?

The current average of $62,670 CAD sits slightly below last year's $79,747 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has moved in your favour as a buyer, but it also means a future seller may need to price more competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have less immediate depreciation pressure than someone who purchased when prices were higher. For resale, the strongest trucks will likely be the ones with desirable trims, the right towing equipment, and well-documented maintenance.

Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford CoPilot 360 is the main driver-assistance suite, and depending on trim it can include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree parking camera system.

Ford also offers helpful towing-focused safety tech such as trailer blind-spot monitoring, dual-tier power-adjustable and power-telescoping trailer mirrors, and a backup camera for when the tailgate is lowered. For a truck this large, the parking camera system is especially important.

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have crash-tested the Ford Super Duty.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 21.41% compared with last year.
