What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The WT and Custom trims use the pre-facelift interior, with a smaller screen and more hard controls and dials, while every other trim gets a more modern, high-tech dash design centred around a large touchscreen. The WT is the most basic, with vinyl upholstery, bench front seating, black front and rear bumpers, rubberized flooring, an analog instrument panel with a 3.5-inch screen, a pair of USB ports, keyless entry, and a 7-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 2.7-litre four-cylinder, optional 5.3-litre and 6.2-litre V8s, and a six-cylinder Duramax turbodiesel. The base four-cylinder uses an eight-speed automatic, while the other engines use a 10-speed automatic. The turbo-four delivers good pickup, and the 10-speed is refined and seldom struggles to find the correct gear.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, lane keep assist, lane-departure warning, and the Teen Driver system. LTZ adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view 360-degree camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and front and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: The WT and Custom trims use a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while every other trim gets a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Those higher trims also include a fully digital instrument panel.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version is the turbodiesel inline-six with RWD at 10.0 L/100 km city, 8.1 highway, and 9.2 combined. The gasoline turbo-four with 4WD returns 12.9 L/100 km city, 11.5 highway, and 12.2 combined.

Which 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 9 trim levels: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2.

Here's the short version:

• WT: This is the most work-focused choice, with vinyl upholstery, bench seating, rubberized flooring, and the basic 7-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the lowest-frills Silverado and can live without the more modern cabin layout.
• Custom: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds cloth upholstery, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 20-inch alloy wheels, a power-locking tailgate, remote start, and two extra USB ports.
• Custom Trail Boss: This is the off-road-oriented step up from Custom, adding standard 4WD with a two-speed transfer case, skid plates, and upgraded shock absorbers.
• LT: This is where the Silverado starts to feel much more modern, with the 13.4-inch touchscreen, fully digital instrument panel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, chrome bumpers, and LED in-bed lighting.
• RST: Choose this if you want a more distinctive look, since it adds 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and unique visual touches.
• LT Trail Boss: This is the better-equipped off-road option if you want the Trail Boss formula with more of the LT’s comfort and tech.
• LTZ: This is probably the best value for creature comforts, adding leather upholstery, a power-operated tailgate, two additional USB ports, wireless device charging, and a power-adjustable front passenger seat.
• High Country: This is the luxury-focused trim, with features such as a power-sliding rear window and heated and ventilated front seats.
• ZR2: This is the most aggressive off-road model, and for 2023 the ZR2 Bison package adds heavy-duty skid plates, steel-stamped bumpers, and more aggressive approach and departure angles.

Several trims offer Canada-specific True North packages with climate-oriented features such as a power-sliding rear window with a defogger and wheelhouse liners.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

The current market looks moderate and selective, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,594 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.96% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $46,018 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $46,018 CAD sits slightly below last year's $51,683 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more truck for the money today, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment. If prices stay near this level, your eventual trade-in or private-sale value may not rebound quickly.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 safe?

The Silverado 1500 earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, and the IIHS gives it fairly high scores in its crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, lane keep assist, lane-departure warning, and the Teen Driver system. LTZ adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view 360-degree camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and front and rear parking sensors.

You can also get adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, a rear-camera mirror, and GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system. The main caveat is that some of the more advanced safety tech is reserved for higher trims or optional equipment.

Should I buy a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds power upgrades for the optional Duramax diesel and a new ZR2 Bison off-road configuration.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $51,213 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $46,018 CAD average.
• It adds the most bed tie-downs in the class.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2023 is the smarter buy because pricing has eased and the truck already has the key cabin and capability updates. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2024 is worth a look for buyers who want the latest version and can stretch their budget.
