How much does the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 10.90% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,547 listings available, which suggests healthy inventory for used shoppers.

Is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earns a 4.36/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its fuel economy, power, comfort, and features, and they also highlight its impressive performance, great mileage, and numerous features. In use, that lines up well with the Silverado’s broad appeal as a full-size pickup that can serve as a work truck, commuter, and family hauler.

The trade-offs are familiar: the ride can feel rough compared with rivals, the front-end styling is polarising, and the steering can feel numb at times. Even so, the Silverado’s cabin space and easy-to-use technology make it a strong fit if you want capability without giving up everyday practicality.

With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to find value if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.36/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in daily use, with many drivers describing it as a solid value for money and appreciating its long-term usefulness. That kind of feedback matters if you want a used full-size pickup you can count on for regular work and commuting.

The expert drive notes also frame it as a capable, well-equipped truck that delivers on true truck duties, which supports confidence in its durability-minded appeal. If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright capability and more about whether you’re comfortable with the Silverado’s rougher ride and other refinement compromises.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The WT and Custom trims use the pre-facelift interior, with a smaller screen and more hard controls and dials, while every other trim gets a more modern, high-tech dash design centred around a large touchscreen. The WT is the most basic, with vinyl upholstery, bench front seating, black bumpers, rubberized flooring, an analog instrument panel, and a 7-inch touchscreen, while the Custom adds cloth upholstery, wireless phone mirroring, a power-locking tailgate, remote start, and more USB ports.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 2.7-litre four-cylinder, a 5.3-litre V8, a 6.2-litre V8, or a Duramax turbodiesel six-cylinder. The base engine uses an eight-speed automatic, while the others use a 10-speed automatic. The turbo-four delivers good pickup, the 10-speed is refined, and the larger V8s bring stronger performance.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, lane keep assist, lane-departure warning, and Teen Driver. Moving up to LTZ adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view 360-degree camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and front and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: The WT and Custom use a 7-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while every other trim gets a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. The more modern setup also includes a fully digital instrument panel.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version is the turbodiesel inline-six with RWD, at 10.0 L/100 km city, 8.1 highway, and 9.2 combined. The gasoline turbo-four with 4WD returns 12.9 city, 11.5 highway, and 12.2 combined, while the least-efficient version is the ZR2 with the 6.2-litre V8 at 16.7 city, 14.0 highway, and 15.5 combined.

Which 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 9 trim levels: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2.

Here's the short version:

• WT: This is the work-focused starting point, with vinyl upholstery, bench front seating, rubberized flooring, a 7-inch touchscreen, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It makes sense if you want the lowest-frills Silverado and can live without the newer cabin layout.
• Custom: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds cloth upholstery, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a power-locking tailgate, remote start, and more USB ports while keeping the truck relatively accessible.
• Custom Trail Boss: This is the off-road-leaning choice if you want the Trail Boss hardware on a Custom foundation. It adds standard 4WD with a two-speed transfer case, skid plates, and upgraded shock absorbers.
• LT: This is where the Silverado starts to feel much more modern, with the larger infotainment setup, fully digital instrument panel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, chrome bumpers, and LED in-bed lighting.
• RST: Choose this if you want a more distinctive look, since it adds 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and unique visual touches.
• LT Trail Boss: This is the better-equipped Trail Boss path if you want the off-road character with more of the LT’s comfort and tech.
• LTZ: This is probably the best value for creature comforts, adding leather upholstery, a power-operated tailgate, wireless device charging, extra USB ports, and a power-adjustable front passenger seat.
• High Country: This is the luxury-oriented pick, with features such as a power-sliding rear window and heated and ventilated front seats.
• ZR2: This is the most serious off-road model, and for 2023 the ZR2 Bison package adds heavy-duty skid plates, steel-stamped bumpers, and more aggressive approach and departure angles.

Several trims offer Canada-specific True North packages with climate-oriented features such as a power-sliding rear window with a defogger and wheelhouse liners.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

The market looks moderately favourable if you’re a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,547 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.90% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $46,451 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $46,451 CAD sits slightly below last year's $52,136 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more attractive level today, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. For a seller, the current trend suggests you may need to price competitively to move the truck, especially if your trim is not one of the more desirable or better-equipped versions.

On the other hand, the Silverado’s broad appeal, strong capability, and practical cabin should help it remain easy to shop in the used market. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.36/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 safe?

The Silverado comes equipped with many of the advanced driver assistance features you’d expect to find in a modern car or SUV. Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, lane keep assist and lane-departure warning. It also comes with the Teen Driver system, which allows the owner to set speed and volume limitations for a second set of keys.

Moving up to the LTZ trim adds standard blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view 360-degree camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and front and rear parking sensors. Other available safety tech includes adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, a helpful rear-camera mirror, and GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the Silverado 1500 an overall safety rating of five out of five stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the Silverado fairly high scores in its crash tests as well.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Should I buy a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.90% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.36/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• For 2023, the Duramax diesel gets power upgrades and the new ZR2 Bison off-road configuration expands the lineup.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $51,411 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $46,451 CAD average.
• It adds the most bed tie-downs in the class.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the better value if you want a well-equipped Silverado at a softer price, especially with strong inventory and meaningful deal availability. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year and want the added practicality of the 2024’s bed tie-down advantage, that’s the cleaner upgrade path.
