Is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.4/5 owner-rated truck with an expert score of 8.7/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its mix of power, comfort, fuel economy, and features, and they also highlight its impressive performance and solid value for money. The Silverado’s broad capability and easy-to-use technology make it appealing if you want a full-size truck that can handle daily driving and work duties. The main trade-offs are a rough ride compared with rivals and steering that can feel numb at times, while the polarising front-end styling may not suit every buyer.

Is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in day-to-day use, with many drivers describing it as a solid value and appreciating its trouble-free mix of comfort, power, and features. The expert evaluation also supports that impression by noting the Silverado’s capability and its ability to serve as a practical commuter or work truck.

Chevrolet also includes a broad set of standard driver-assistance features, which can help reduce ownership stress over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that higher-mileage examples may show the usual wear associated with a large, hard-working pickup, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The WT and Custom trims use the older interior layout with a smaller screen and more hard controls, while every other trim gets a more modern, high-tech dash design centred around a large touchscreen. The WT is the most basic, with vinyl upholstery, bench front seating, rubberised flooring, an analog instrument panel, and a 7-inch touchscreen, while the Custom adds cloth upholstery, wireless phone mirroring, remote start, and more convenience features.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a turbocharged 2.7-litre four-cylinder, a 5.3-litre V8, a 6.2-litre V8, or a Duramax turbodiesel six-cylinder. The turbo-four is the base engine, the V8s add more output, and the diesel is the efficiency-focused option.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, lane keep assist, lane-departure warning, and the Teen Driver system. LTZ adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view camera system, rain-sensing wipers, and front and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: WT and Custom use a 7-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Most other trims get a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, plus a fully digital instrument panel.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version is the turbodiesel inline-six with RWD at 10.0 L/100 km city and 8.1 L/100 km highway. The turbo-four with 4WD returns 12.9 L/100 km city and 11.5 L/100 km highway, while the least-efficient ZR2 with the 6.2-litre V8 returns 16.7 L/100 km city and 14.0 L/100 km highway.

Which 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 9 trim levels: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2.

Here's the short version:

• WT: This is the most work-focused choice, with vinyl upholstery, a bench front seat, rubberised flooring, and the basic 7-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the lowest-frills Silverado and value utility over comfort.
• Custom: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds cloth upholstery, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote start, and a power-locking tailgate while staying relatively simple. It’s the sweet spot if you want everyday convenience without moving too far up the price ladder.
• Custom Trail Boss: This is the off-road-leaning version based on the Custom, adding standard 4WD with a two-speed transfer case, skid plates, and upgraded shock absorbers. Choose it if you want trail hardware without jumping to the top of the range.
• LT: This is where the Silverado starts to feel much more modern, with the 13.4-inch touchscreen, fully digital instrument panel, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated steering wheel, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. It’s a strong pick if cabin tech matters most.
• RST: This trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and unique visual touches. It suits you if you want a more distinctive look without chasing luxury features.
• LT Trail Boss: This trim combines the LT’s upgraded cabin with the Trail Boss off-road hardware. It’s the better choice if you want both the modern interior and the tougher suspension setup.
• LTZ: This is probably the best value for creature comforts, adding leather upholstery, a power-operated tailgate, wireless device charging, extra USB ports, and a power-adjustable front passenger seat. It’s the trim to target if you want a more upscale daily driver.
• High Country: This is the luxury-oriented trim, with features such as a power-sliding rear window and heated and ventilated front seats. It suits buyers who want the most premium Silverado experience.
• ZR2: This is the most off-road-focused trim, with heavy-duty skid plates, steel-stamped bumpers, and more aggressive approach and departure angles. The new-for-2023 Bison package adds even more trail-ready hardware.

The LTZ is the best-value trim for comfort-focused buyers, while the ZR2 is the one to choose if off-road capability is your priority.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,609 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.15% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $45,735 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $45,735 CAD sits slightly below last year's $51,476 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Silverado has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract attention if the truck is well kept. A softer market can also mean you may need to price competitively if you plan to sell later, especially if similar listings remain plentiful. Well-equipped trims and clean-condition examples should hold up better than trucks with obvious wear or limited equipment.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

LTZ adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view 360-degree camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and front and rear parking sensors. Available features include adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, a rear-camera mirror, and GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system.

Should I buy a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds power upgrades for the optional Duramax diesel and a new ZR2 Bison off-road configuration.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $51,004 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $45,735 CAD average.
• It adds the most bed tie-downs in the class.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2023 is the stronger buy because prices have eased and the truck already has the key cabin and capability updates. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and a few practical refinements, the 2024 is worth a look.
